Caught my neighbor stealing water from my house. Saturday morning walk the dogs around the house and I notice that there is a water hose coming from my hose bib going into his hose bib. I turn off the water and disconect the hose bib, go back into the house to get my camera and when I get back the hose is gone. About 2o minutes later the neighbor comes over and says " I didn't know you were home, and my water had been turned off ", I asked him how long the water had been turned off for and he said 1 day, and because of the holiday weekend he could not get the water turned back on until Tuesday and he needed a shower. Now I don't mind helping someone out BWTF. I now have found out that the water has been turned off since AUG 23rd. What would you do? have you ever used one of these hose bib locks?

Compare your next water bill with some of your past bills and if there is not any major differences, no harm no foul, but if there is. Ask him to pay it.

Whats the relationship like with the guy? Maybe he is a little down on luck? Give him a break, be the bigger man and don't make a big deal out of it, if he offers to pay for the water, if no, burn the fricken house down and watch him try to put it out without water!!!!:D

Like I said I have no problem helping someone out, but come on just ask. The police said that it can be a chargeable crime "stealing utilities".

Throw one of those locks on it and forget about it. I wouldn't start WWIII over it because it sounds like he lives there full time and you don't.

If you don't have a meter, then you're on a flat rate, use as much as you want, you're only paying for the service. If you have a meter, check you bills as someone said and ask him for a little help. Here is a time to be a nice guy...

I like the design, but the pad lock has got to go. Use a lock where it is impossible to put bolt cutters on it.

Lynchmob relax...
Just think... You probably have him under you thumb now and for what a little water?
If he's a stand up guy he will probably return the favor ten fold for the embarrasment of getting caught alone.
If he's not what did it really cost you and now you know who he really is.
Then go ahead and turn in a change of address for him at the post office so he can't get and pay any of his bills.

Don't know for sure but don't those anti back flow attachments prevent this too??
Edit: Never mind, just figured out it would have to be on his house and not yours.

Not cool for him to just help himself but stranger things can happen.....

A few years ago I aparently had a cheap ass neighbor at a place I owned in Big bEar Lake. One day I arrived for a nice weekend away to find a cable stretching from my cable TV junction under the house eaves to my neighbors cable input??? He said that he was "just testing" his system. I told the cheap ass to get his own cable or else!

I used to work for a water company. When we shut people off for non-payment we would put a lock in the meter box. You can use that method. It is a 1/4 turn keystop. Good luck.

Amen, the last person you want to have any squabble with is a neighbor, never know when you might need his help lifting the engine out of the boat. As long as its not a couple hundred dollars different from the last few months, I would not worry about it. He is probably really embarassed too :(

He should have at least asked first..............,my neighbors did that in Citrus Heights to fill their swimming pool. I didnt even know about it until after the fact. Handed them the bill reflecting the extra charges and they laughed. They were total meth heads and I hated living there. I was by myself with my daughter and was afraid they would mess with the boat or the house when I was gone so I just left it alone.
I moved a few months later.

Back flow preventer's on residental homes have a back flow device that just screws onto the end of your hose bib. So all you have to do is take it off. Put a lock on your angle stop at the street if you don't want this to happen again.

So last night I get a call from the men in blue (5-0), guess who has a water hose hooked up again? Thats right, the officer said that he had the water on for over 3 hours, and that I gave him permission. I told the officer I had only given him permission to use the water to take a shower until he got the water turned on yesterday. So here we go.

You have a problem.
People that lie, cheat and steal will continue to do so as long as you let them. Some people (many on Hot Boat) have the belief that it's ok to lie a little, steal a little or cheat every now and again. They want you to believe you're being too hard on them, etc. etc. BS!!! Call it now and get it stopped or you are in for alot more than this. Time for a sit down with the neighbor. Is his house going into foreclosure? Financial problems? No problem in sitting down and seeing if you can help him figure things out. If not, time for an aprtment or shelter. Otherwise, break out your checkbook, you have a new family!!!

Something happen like this to a friend of mine in Havi, but it was with power. The neighor ran an extension cord to his house to use his power since theirs was shut off. He found out and told them to knock it off. Sure enough, next time he was out the power cord returned. He called the police. Cops told the neighbors that next time the do it they are going to jail. Sure enough, the cops came by a few days later and the extension cord was hooked up. Off to jail they went.

I have to tell you the police in Havasu are very good about dealing with people who steal your stuff, their is an actual Arizona state law called, "theft of services" it deals with water, cable, trash, etc. I do not want to tell you to throw the book at them but the police will take them to jail and the judge will sentence them. Like everyone else has said are the full time neighbors or renters ? Renters, screw it throw the book at them, theft of services is actually pretty common around town and they will continue to steal your water and who knows what else. If you do not want to be a cop caller I believe in a good old fashion a$$ whoopin  I live in town let me know if you need me to drive by the house and check it out for you.

Fawk all this worrying. Find the home on the block that is occupied the least amount of time. Everyone in the neighborhood should just daisy chain house to house to that house and let that one person provide water to EVERYONE.
Water should be free anyhow.

When I was 17 I shared a trailer with a couple other teenage friends of mine.
In Alaska. We figured out how to run a cord to the neighbors outlet for electricity. Buried in the snow. Went on for a month or so. I drove up one evening and got out of my car. WHAMMO!!
That full grown man knocked the shit out of me and proceeded to give me a SCARY ass kicking!
Never said a word, just beat the holy sh*t out of me. When he was satisfied he walked away and went inside.
In a while I got up and went inside in extreme pain. There were my buddies sitting' on the couch, each with black eyes and numerous bruises. Seems he had started with the 2 at home and caught me as I returned.
To my knowledge, in the 30 year since, NONE of us have stolen anything again.
It's a guaranteed cure. Tommy

Tell him if he wants to use your hose for a shower, he can do it after your cars and boat is washed.
He needs to shower at the gym like all the other respectable dirtbags.
You could also lock off the main at the curb. Nothing special needed, just a pad lock and a water wrench.

Lock it at the curb, tell him if he tresspasses again your pressing charges. Then tell him if he needs a favor, or he's in a bind, to call you or ask like a man first. I bet he never speaks to you again.;)
He sounds like a douche bag, and if he'd take water because he "needed" it, he'd take anything he justifies to himself that he "needed".

Neighbor Dispute Leads To Fatal Shooting
(CBS) SANTA CLARITA, Calif. A confrontation between two neighbors resulted in one fatally shooting the other in Val Verde Park, authorities said.
The shooting occurred about 8 p.m. Tuesday in the 30500 block of Arlington Street, near Kensington Road, said Los Angeles County sheriff's Deputy Tony Moore.
The two men had a physical altercation outside their homes, said sheriff's Deputy Hugo Macias. The one who lost walked back into his house and armed himself with a handgun, and the other did the same, Macias said.
When they re-emerged, the first man confronted the other, who in turn, opened fire, striking his adversary in the lower torso.
The man who was wounded was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, he said.
The shooter was taken into custody for questioning, Macias said. Neither his name nor that of the deceased was immediately released. The nature of the dispute was not immediately determined.
