I am wondering what a complete MK IV 454 would be worth. Has 4 bolt mains and 990 heads. Needs rebuild but it's complete...

First, beware of junk......Sleeved motors, worn cam thrust surfaces, excessive decking, and of course cracks.......A decent 454 MK IV block that is not already bored .060 is roughly $350-500, bare....The heads, rebuildable, not cracked, (alot of them ARE) $200-400......A complete 454/990 package may also have a steel crank in it, another $300-500......Throw the rods away, throw the pistons away, (assuming they're stockers)...Also, those heads will need some work to make them true performers, O/S valves, springs, guides, cut for PC seals etc etc....If you can get the whole deal, guareented not to be cracked, I would say $500. would be a good deal.......Buy with the agreement the block, crank, and heads be Magged by your shop prior to final payment. There are several sites that list casting numbers for blocks and forging numbers for cranks, (Mortec, for one).....Remember, if the deal sounds to good to be true, chances are it is....Too good to be true.....Beware................MP

Throw the rods away,
Might want to make sure they aren't the good 7/16" rods before tossing them aside?

Actually, this is my original engine from my boat. My new engine cost a few more pennies than I was planning on so now I'm wondering if I should sell it. I wanted to hang onto it, but I need the cash :(

3 years ago at rebuild, it'd have tried to find the $$$, and relieve you of a set.
After putting good ARP bolts in my 3/8 rods, and the fact that the MOST I plan to make is arround 600HP, and plan to spin under 6,000RPM, I don't think they'd do me any good.:D
Your opinion welcome tho mp. :)
