I just bought a 1976 23 ft sleekcraft and on my third day out the crank broke in two, a piston craked and the beardings are fried. Mindless to say I am pissed. I dont know what to do because a new 454 or even rebuilt is more than the boat is worth ( i paid 4000). Any ideas?

sleek I dont know what route you want to take, but I have a gen mot 540 low deck bowtie bare block i will sell you for $1000.00 if you want to build your own or for a good fountation. I also have a couple 850 holleys flowed at 920 and some misc stuff if your interested. much less then getting a new block and its in perfect shape.

If you can measure and assemble......buy a rotating kit and bore the block to the next size piston. That way you will be able to keep all of the clearances correct.

You might get away for three grand. It would be tough to scrounge well enough to do it for two.
Don't consider throwing a junkyard engine in it, just to get it back in the water.

Don't count on it......I had a good friend with a 455 Olds. He bought a motor from a junk yard. He ran it every weekend for about 5 years "Wide Open" It never even skipped a beat.... :)
