Any suggestions where to get and how much $$$ for a new or reman'd 350 long block for a 1999 Suburban? My bro's Sub is making some nasty noises so we are thinking about just pulling the engine and starting with a new one. He doesn't have the time to rebuild the one in it, hence looking for a long block.

Local machine shop should be able to build you one exchange for you core for under $1000 easy. One of the finest machine shops in the country is just north of me in San Fernando and they'll do a non-vortec long block 350 for $836 out the door with a core.

id look into the GM crate motors. i hear they are now offering a smog legal 383 crate motor for that application. is he looking for cheap, or just fast turn around time?

He's looking for the lowest price of having it done "right". It has ~140,000mi on it and it likely will become his girls school car in a year or two (short drive - less than 10 miles). It's their 3rd car, he's not time critical.
I told him to go for the 383, but he said less power is better given a 14yr old will be driving it this time next year!

good idea - he's looking at a couple of local options. I was helping him find the best deal on a new GM crate w/ warrantee to use as a price benchmark.

p/n 12530282 for his '99 1/2 ton Sub is correct, right?
