i'm finally going to ditch my my manual diverter and go with a hydraulic unit. its time to drive with both hands on the wheel.
i'd like to see photos of any custom switches and switch mounts. Im not stoked on the standard place diverter switch and was wondering if there's anything else out there with a nice coiled wiring harness for the steering wheel.
also i'd like to hear everyone's experiences with the different brands of hydraulic pumps and cylinders out there. i've see a few friends struggle with brands that don't always work and was wondering if this is a common thing.
my manual set up has been completely dependable and i dont want to switch to hydro unit that wont always move when i want it to.
thanks.

Mike, I like the mercury trim switch the best, the rest of them look cheesey and the buttons are way too small.. We are going to try that pump made by Parker for the Rogers, will let you know how it goes. We havent even installed it yet but i can tell that its a much higher quality pump than that bennett that we had nothing but problems with.

I will get some pics but I wanted to say, three boats all
with a bennett pumps and not one problem. just keep them somewhat dry. and if you need a replacement cylinder
go to www.grainger.com you can get the same cylinder
for about $25 compared to $75 from one of the marine
companys. http://http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/items/6W102 I think this is the one. also you might consider a floor mounted switch
I allways thought that would be nice.

can anyone buy from Grainger or do you have to have an account there?
thanks!
i'm trying to envision a way to mount the top of that cylinder to my existing steering arm...

A pedal operated diverter would be fun.

Like a down pedal in a flatty i think would be pretty bad azz! I think there is someone that is building something like that rite now.

i think the one you are thinking of is for the reverse bucket.
there is an ex Rogers drag boat out of Wheel R Inn that has a bitchin pedal diverter setup though.

That would be fun to hold the pedal down and let it off as you come on set!!!! Then run a t handle for a lock out just like a v-drive for crusing around the lake when not racing, that would be sweet!

Not the sickest looking but the big buttons are easy to push while bouncing around in chop.
I use the pump from Place Diverter. The damn thing always comes off the POS mount the sell with it and all mt ATF fluid pours out. I'm gonna have IMCO fab me up something cool to mount the it...Since we have the same hull... Ill show you how it looks when its done.
Good Luck! If I get time I'll uncover my boat and snap a pic of the mount to stay away from!

I think I got the switch and the cord from Rex.
The toggle switch that comes from PD looks like something from Radio Shack.

i ended up putting the switch i got from Rex on the wheel like you guys did. ended up not needing it for racing so the whole system is coming back out of the boat. the hyraulic pump reservoir cap leaks and its driving me nuts.

What hydro pump did you use? I really hate mine for the same reason. Cleaning ATF up is no fun back there.

I'm not a big fan of the white, so maybe strip it off and give it a clear anodize.

just for the record. i use the factory bennet pump with no problem but i also use the banderlog relay in conjunction with the factory place diverter switch and bennet pump. 7 seasons and no problem. i took the system from the old tahiti and installed it on the rogers and its working flawlessly. a larger diameter line would make the trim quiker, but i like what i have now as its been easy to fine tune. the switch is mounted (sorry no pics) were my left hand is resting and hanging on to the gunnel. i take off with it almost full down, then 3 quik taps on the switch and it right were the boat likes it.

Not a great photo, but the buttons are set to fit your thumbs, perfect. We used the merc switch for the deverter and similar plate for the NOS button.
Comfort and simplicity.

Ignore the "remote" on the left. It does not work very well and should be shotfor trying to call itself a remove.

It works better/faster than the Bennett but it has a leak I have to find.....

here's mine... i installed it in '97. it's all stock place stuff, including the wheel button. i've had no problems with it (knock knock), nozzle is always up within 2 seconds (this isn't "full travel", but where i need it). i've run poly lines with this one, and the previous boat i had, and the only time i've had leaks is when i don't cut the poly lines exactly straight.

on the steering wheel, i like having the button at the top (with steering centered). i've tried other locations (2o'clock, etc.), but this is most comfortable for me.

i've read a lot of posts that people have problems with this system, and i know josh has/had a problem, but i don't know what the solutions are/were. i just followed the directions from place. when i bought the system for this boat, the steering wheel button instructions weren't included, so had to call tim to get that, but i just followed the instructions and it's worked.
i completely agree that having both hands on the wheel is the better method. i know of only one guy that has been successful "shifting", and he's very good at what he does, but that's not the norm.
