Not sure of the truth, but I remember someone telling me at the turn of the century or even before that they use run steam ships all the way up the Colorado from the Sea of Cortez to Parker prior to any dams.

Thats where steamboat coves name came from, they use to pull in there for shelter during monsons(sp).

The steamboats went all the way up to what's now Lake(s) Mohave and Mead. They docked at Callville and Cottonwood Cove,

Pick up a book called Stories From The Arizona Coast Written by Paul Taylor.
Lots Of pics and info from Steamships to the towns up and down the river where the steamboats navigated. VERY COOL BOOK IMO.

Definitely have to pick that up....we picked up another book called "End of the Road"...which is a book about the origins of Havasu Palms....good book.
