I lost the key code for my Windows XP disk, is there a way to retrieve the info off the hard drive, or am I screwed?

Use a free key finder like Magical Jelly Bean Key Finder.

Might not be able to do all the updates that way though.

I checked it on my desktop which I do have the key for, it pulled the right number in about 2 seconds!

All that the jellybean keyfinder does is extract your XP product key from the windows registry. It doesn't generate a new key if you didn't have a legit key to begin with. It's not going to anything that will cause windows update to break.

That's exactly what I needed it for. :)
