I asked this same question last summer when I put an EFI system on my Nordic mini cruiser/454/Dominator Jet. Most of the responses thought bypassing to the upstream side of the fuel pump would work ok, but a few said it would cause problems. Although it was a lot more involved, I went ahead and set up return lines back to the tanks. Now I can move gas from one tank to the other, but the best part is, no problems with the fuel delivery. Oh, I just noticed the "mechanical fuel pump"--my system required a high pressure electric pump. Don't know if my situation applies.
