Now back to the top (after I hijacked the thread :) )
How much can Chris jack this thing up to now that he has a chiller?

My buddy runs 6 lbs with 92 and a bottle of lucas octane booster on his 454 with a bds 8-71 and no chiller,You should be able to run 8 to 10lbs with the chiller and 92 no problem! Now go do it and give us some results!

I thought 10 would be OK, but wasn't sure. I read a thread a while back, but can't find it now, about how much boost I can add with the chiller. I was looking for a little more input from you all to reassure me .

My motors are 7.5-1, and I run 10psi with a chiller. 120 hrs and counting on 91 octane.

Teague set my motors up at 11 PSI and 8 to 1 for pump gas. Timing at 32 degrees total. Knock meters never senses detonation on pump gas. However, I usually run Av Gas with Marvel since it is easy to get and cheap insurance.

For us that dont know, what size is your motor and blower? 10psi UNDER the chiller sometimes takes some spinning on the blower. ;)

Cool A FORD GUY! Actually I have a 65 Fairlane, but all it did was put down a bunch of smoke on the rollers :D
IF your blower has the 60 degree rotors, your going to have to spin that thing 15 to 20 percent over to see 10psi under the cooler. Remember you get some restriction with the superchiller and a pressure drop when it cools. Let me take a look at a dyno sheet for examples. Of course camshaft profiles, and cylinder head flow will effect this too.
Heres 20% OVER on a 547 with a 871 to make 10psi with my heads/cam

Oh yeah, FORD guy all the way !!! Got a lot of them, one of the many is a `79 4X4 Shorty 460 that put 297 to the ground, and that's through the x-fer case !!! Your car runs 8's and it's street legal, now that's real nice !!!! Nice dyno sheet, is that the one in your car ? My cam doesn't make good power till 5k I think. Supossed to live at 7K, shooting for 6.6K at W.O.T.
I have my cam card and flow numbers of the heads, but not right here at the desk. I can post 'em tomorrow. I didn't realize that the chiller would creat that much back pressure. Man I knew I shoulda got the 12-71.......what was I thinking !!!!! I guess I'll have to play with pulley's a little to find that magic 9-10 pounds of boost.
The engine was going to be dyno'd, but the dyno shop broke their 460 mount just b/4 I got on. It was wait 4 weeks for the repair and an open slot, or stick it in and boat for what little summer we had left up here. I plan on dynoing this winter, to get the tune perfect. I was looking for opinions as to whether or not I can safely run 10 pounds w/o troubles.

NICE truck!! I had a 79 with a 460 and regret selling it. Love that body style. I cant see the headlights, but my 79 had the square lights.
Actually I never did run that blower in the car after that dyno. I Just sold it to a buddy. I went with a 1471 BDS right after the dyno pulls and still had problems making much more boost/power. I’m convinced the BDS blowers are real weak.. I’ve been BDS a supporter for a while but after testing a few weeks ago with alcohol, I’ve given up running their junk. They were always rude and condescending on the phone anyway. A Littlefield is on its way.
As far as opinions on what you can run safely... I dont think ANYONE will give you a definate answer, or shouldnt anyway. Youve heard it a million times, every motor is different.. You just have to keep your eyes on the plugs and sneak up on it.
FYI.. I ran the 12psi or so on MY COMBO intercooled on pump gas and never seen any sign of detenation on the street, but when I raced or dyno'd I just threw in race fuel for the safety factor.
Keep us posted..

I'm a big fan of the `79's as well. Mine does indeed have the sqaure headlights, wit the chrome XLT surrounds and chrome grill. It has a `71 Lincoln 460 in it (mildly built with head work). I'm not far away from starting my `79 CrewCab 4X4 project. Making a longbed since they didn't offer one in `79 on any 4X4's. I plan on installing a blown Ford in it as well. I really want it to run in the 13's if at all possible :D.
The only experirnce I've had with BDS is a phone call or two. They seemed bored with my questions, as I didn't know ANYTHING about blowers b/4 at the time (and still don't..lol). I thought their prices seemed to be a bit high compaired to the competition. I chose Don Hampton for price and quality, and he spent countless hours on the phone with me answering my endless questions. I can't say enough good about him. My buddy has one of his blowers on his BOSS 9, Don hand made the intake manifold for him, some real art there.
I'll let you guys know what I end up running, for now I'll just look at the chiller and drool :)
