I've heard mention of a dude that claims his 17ft Hydrostream with a 150 hp Black Max and a few mods will do 100 mph top-end???
Is this a for real speculation?
Right now it may be a 70-75 mph boat and I'm wondering what it will take to do the number????
From what I've seen in the ***boat Magazine ProStock Bass Boats and only do high 80's to low 90's.

You would not believe how many 100 mph boats I have outrun with an 80 mph boat, and most of those were jet boats (cheap shot but true.) The best way to sell a jet boat is to sell it without a speedometer, at least it SOUNDS like it is doing 100. Now if your question was "IS a 150 enough to outrun a jet boat" I would have to say YES! Fishermen are the biggest liars??? I stand corrected.

100 with a 150? BULL$#%# I have in front of me a Merc hi perf brochure that says "Jerry Jaco of Jaco's marine setting the WORLD RECORD at 89.734 mph with a 150 promax in an Allison boat. A black max is no where near a Promax even with a few mods.

Thanks guys!!!
Yeah, I've heard all the stories about jets and I've never claimed mine to be fast. Mine is actually detuned back to log manifolds to cruise the wife and kiddies around for a putt.
But this guy with the "Stream" claimed low 70's, which I'm not challenging, and then major gains with a prop, nose cone and another widget/gizmo or 2 (I don't recall what they were) and that would get it 100 mph. I do know what v-drive and jetters have to go thru to push a hull over water and 5-10 mhp gains are not without some major upgrades.
It just didn't add up!!
I knew that I could get the straight scoop here.

Well, to answer the question, the 150 in all forms 2.0, 2.4, and 2.5 are the same basic block as the race motors. With a little work in capable hands a 150hp 2.5 fishin motor can pump out 350hp, and closer to 400 with race gas, and 600 with No2. So to answer the question can a modified 150 on a 17' stream run 100mph, yes it can. To clear up another thing the pro max 150 and 200 are the same powerheads as the 150XRi and 200XRi (theses are Black Max motors) with the exception of a different ECU, Lightweight cowling, soild motor mounts, and a sportmaster gearcase. The 225 is a derivitave of the old 2.5 mod vp motor. The promax is a sheep in wolfs clothing.

Ah yes, you never know who may be lurking behind the scenes and waiting for the opportunity to jump in at the perfect time and show us his enormous wealth of information. Personally I would just buy the 2.5 racing motor and put a 150 cowling on it and probably come out cheaper. Goes to show anything is possible if you truly want to do it the hard way. Thanks Capatilist!!
But maybe you missed the part about....
"Black Max and a few mods"??
Not on that guys budget.
That sounds like how well the Ford flathead performs on the Salt Flats. But how much of one of those is still a stock Ford part?

Ya, I would buy a 2.5 and add a 150 cowling to........all bite and no bark is a lot more fun.
