Owned the 20.4 for 4 years. Wax and gas is all I put into it. Ran 97 with the 260hp Merc.No open bows.Strickly performance. The 22 still is ***boats favorite. Look up the article. I think it says something like,"a unanimous test team favorite. Performance that will rock you to the core".What model are you looking at?

Stokers are fabulous boats in my opinion. The hulls are extremely well built and Stoker pays attention to detail. They handle excellent and are extremely efficient. When powered by a Merc 2.5L 260 or 280, you can expect speeds in the mid to upper 90's. If powered by an OMC 225 or so, expect speeds in the mid 80's.
The hulls are actually layed up by Eliminator. Stoker takes it from there and rigs them, puts the interior in, etc. I believe Stoker is located in Stanton, CA. In my opinion, I think the Stoker 20' (either model) is the best all around affordable performance boat. You will not be disappointed. Good Luck!

STEP UP AND PUT A 300X ON IT. YOU'LL SEE AT LEAST 105+

Do not buy what they call a merc pace maker motor for that or any boat. It is basicly a reconditioned motor that several people I know were very very unhappy with nothing but trouble out of them. COUGARMAN

IMHO, I say negative on the 300x. The 20' is a light boat and the 2.5L works well on this hull. You will have much better acceleration and close to 100 mph top end with the 2.5L. Sure the 300x may get a few more mph, but your acceleration will suck because to get that top mph you will have to run something like a 30" prop and wind it out (6,800 max rpm). With a 2.5L, you can rev the piss out of it (not too much though...say 8K max) with a smaller prop... say a 26".... and still get close to the same mph and a hell of a lot better acceleration.
The 300x is a great motor, just not in this application in my opinion. I would not hesitate to run it on a heavier boat where the 2.5L would struggle.

HD you da man.I was just thinking that very same thought about if I get this boat what size prop Should I get for accel and hole shot.I'm leaning towards the 2.5L and adding a nose cone, shaved heads and maybe perfomance reeds.I hope this does'nt sound stupid.

With the 2.5L 280hp, you will not need to get a nose cone. The sportmaster gearcase is manufactured with a nose cone and low water pick-up. It also has a heavy duty bearing carrier. The unit is built for speed, you won't need to do anything to it except change the gear lube regularly (Mercruiser Hi-Performance lube).
No need for race reeds as I believe this motor has a seven pettle set-up. As far as shaving the heads....you will need to have a reputable shop shave them evenly (or buy a set with smaller chambers).
One thing to think about, is the SVS system. I have no experience with this, but ***boat raves about it. It is about $1,700, but I hear it works well. Suppose to distribute the air more evenly to all cylinders. The drag motors come stock with these intakes.
I will throw you my personal opinion here and say ........go for the 2.5L 280hp Offshore motor that has the open exhaust. It sounds bitchen and looks really cool. Good Luck and nice...........future boat! http://free.***boat.net/ubb/smile.gif

My dad is seriously looking for a Stoker with a Merc, but can't find one. This may work for him if the price is right! He is in Corona, CA.
How Much? Post a picture if possible. Email me at madamson@keybank.com

I have a 1990 20'4" with a Johnson 225. Some modifications done by the previous owner. I cannot get more than 75 mph. What am I doing wrong? Al Stoker says he has had it up to 85 when it was bone stock.

HD, I had sent you photos of it a few months back but it was out of your fathers price range. Maybe he would like to buy it less power? Joe
