This makes it easier for everyone to see. Standard HTML doesn't work very well there.

I wonder why it has a tag with numbers covering the original numbers in the hull?

Rich, if you remember, my hull didnt have any ID numbers at all. i was told by law enforcement that i can make a tag and install it in that location and it would be ok as long as it looked professional and was mounted with rivets or some sort of none removable fasteners.
when i talked with roger about it, he told me to give and cop his number and have him call if i ever have any problems. said it was layed up as a race hull and didnt require ID numbers back then. so maybe in this case someone made a plate to be legal. or its a "HOT" boat and trying to cover it up.

Mine doesnt have a HIN# on it either. I was also told to make one and rivet it on to be 100% legal.

I see.
I've had several boats with no numbers, have a '68 hull right now, and never had felt the impluse to rivet a tag of aluminum to the transom just to show them off. That's what the registration is for. Maybe California is different, I've never had a problem getting a undocumented hull regestered, but I've always done it through AAA. They know all the short cuts I guess :)
