carbon deposits

what will clean carbon off the the top off pistons. i have taken the head off my sons truck (toyota) and all of the pistons have carbon buildup on them. its not real bad but as long as the head is off i might as well remove it

If it's alot of carbon you have bigger problems. Is the piston cleaner/washed at the edge where it meets the cylinder wall? If so you have oil control ring problems. What year/engine? Whys the head off?
