As many of you know, I spent close to 30 years in Alaska.
There was homesteader who lived about 30 miles back in the mountains behind the coastal town of Seward. A real old timer. In the Winters He would snowmachine down to Seward 2-3 times during the Winter for supplies.
One Winter, a Winter with unusually heavy snowfall, He never came out to town all Winter long.
When the snow started melting, a couple of Fish & Game officers traveled to his cabin by snowmachine to check on him.
As they approached his cabin, they noticed seagull carcasses and feathers everywhere. All over the property.
They entered the cabin and found the old guy alive. Very thin and worn, but alive. They asked him about the seagulls. He said that was the only thing he could manage to catch, and so had to survive on them. The officers declined to charge him with any offenses,(seagulls are federally protected), Guy had to eat.
As they were leaving, one officer said "I just gotta ask, what does a seagull taste like?"
Old timer never even flinched as he answered "Kinda like a cross between Bald Eagle and Spotted Owl."
