That gave me a stiffy. He was sinking 8,500 fpm at 4,000 ft, had to start his flare at 2,000 ft, and bleed 100 kts in the last 1,000 ft. 300+ kts IAS on short final. I would give my left nut just to fly the sim let alone the a/c. For those who don't know the average commercial jet flies it's approach at speeds between 120-150 kts depending on weight. The typical sink rate on final approach is about 700 fpm (feet per minute) depending on approach speed and glide path angle (3 deg avg). The landing flare begins around 20 ft for 737, and 50 ft for 747.

I read an interview where he said it came while at NASA but he doesn't know why he got it, maybe because he likes tex-mex food. His Navy call sign was Cujo. The article also said during their 8 hr sleep period they see 16 sunrises and 16 sunsets. They also grow 1.5 inches in zero gravity.
