Some kind of tight fields at the Smokin' In the Cove Race at Malvern, AR. And again this year.... Jerry Hicks in his CP jetboat HotTub is #1 Qualifier.... at a 6.005.... and here is the pass!

Top Qualifier 7.004
It took a 7.047 of better to make the 16 boat field! 7.05 and you were out!
8.00 to 8.99
Top Qualifier 8.000
Bump spot 8.07 in the 16 boat qualified field
9.00 to 9.99
Top Qualifier 9.004
The first 11 qualifying spots were in the 9.0's
I'll tell you how tough it was... Two very good SDBA racers who were the season high points winner and runner up barely made the 8.00 field. One slipped in when he was #17 and a boat declared broke... and they both went out first round today.

I did'nt end up making the trip, my dad and racing partner was injured at work on Tuesday. A couple of my racing buddies went and they had a great time. I have'nt been able to reach them today, does anyone know who won the 6sec, and 9sec.

there were some incredibly fast boats there this weekend..the cool air made alot of boats struggle to make their class.. alot were running under their class index

I think that is Tim Ortiz he was at the finals in PHX last year.
You correct... It is Tim Ortiz running Steve Welch's TX-19.... The boat is actually a "Wittcraft". Robert Wittenburg who worked with Jim Youngblood in the mid to late 1970's and early eighties built this boat as a lake boat around 1990.
