If he didn't check to make sure he was tied down, what do you suppose the rest of his pre flight encompassed?

Glen Canyon News Release
Helicopter Crashes on Top of Houseboat
Page, AZ - On October 2, 2007, at approximately 10:00 a.m., Glen Canyon
National Recreation Area dispatch received a call stating that a
helicopter had crashed on a houseboat located in the mouth of Last
Chance Bay on Lake Powell. National Park Service rangers and fire
fighters quickly responded by boat.
As the pilot was taking off from the beached houseboat, the Robinson 44
helicopter slammed back down onto the houseboat. It appears that the
rear tie down strap was not removed prior to take-off. The experienced
pilot frequently flies to and from his 75-foot houseboat, which is
equipped to support the helicopter.
The passenger was flown by Classic Lifeguard Helicopter to Flagstaff
Medical Center for traumatic injuries while the pilot declined medical
treatment. The passenger has since been released from the hospital.
The crash resulted in a significant amount of fuel leaking into the
lake.
Appropriate measures were taken to clean up the spill. Removal of the
helicopter's main rotors and tail rotor from the lake was accomplished
immediately by a contractor.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating this
incident.

do ya'll think he'll get his ticket pulled for this?

Not until they complete the investigation, but I'd venture to guess they'll do a short-term suspension until the results are in. I'm thinking the environmental fees/fines will be the killer part.

Depends... he would have to be found negligent to receive a revocation. I'd say at most he'll have to take a 609 ride (or what ever it's called, a check ride with the FAA...)
I'd be more worried about the clean-up bill from the NPS than a 90 day certificate action.

Apparently not smarter than a fith grader. And he certainly did not pre flight his aircraft!! Yes, he will have his ticket pulled for that one!

You know this how??? From what the news release says??

I am a pilot. I have my commercial, instrument and multi engine. I got my rating and went to school at ERAU (graduated in 1985). That's also where I got my engineering degree.
If he did a pre-flight, he would have caught the tie down. Because this accident caused environmental damage, probabilities are that he will lose his ticket, even for a period of time, or until his receives whatever training they require. Probably "how to do a pre-flight." would be my guess.
My old roommate is at the Scottsdale FAA, I would suspect the are the investigating body. I'll ask!!
Any other questions??

How many times have you done a post flight and found the landing gear wasn't deployed, or utilized on a runway??? :D :D :D

I want to admit, right here on HB, that I have crashed two aircraft in my time. My ticket was not pulled and the circumstances surrounding my "incidents" were during flight, not prior to!!!!
That being said, I stand by my statements with regard to wrecking planes, cars or boats. I am one of the more experienced people on this board in wrecking things. Specifically, planes, cars and, not happened yet, but boats. In the event you are having problems, you probably would want me to be PIC of whatever you have going down........experience counts on these things.
Now I do not want to crash a Pilatus, but I have been told it will sustain something like 6 Gs of force on the way into the ground. And Buzz has yet to execute our trade with the King Air. :jawdrop:

That's because you never pilot your boats. It's always Capt. Danny or Capt. Fantastic. :D :D :D
