are you talking about a jet drive impeller? and are you sure your not mistaken the impeller for the wear ring? i believe the ultimate wear ring has blue in it but im not sure. and i still wouldnt run it without water. i have yet to hear anything like you describe, nor anything about a "blue impeller". were did you hear this?

They're made by Globe. Don't know much about them other that they are suppose to run dry for up to 15 min without damage. I have never used any.

Many times I have wanted to start it for a second before I make to haul to the water. I'd have to pull out the hose etc etc. It would be nice to be able to fire it up and run 10 sec. Long enough to check the gauges before I head out.
I talked to the marine supply house down here, Palmer Power. He said " the first ones would not hold up well. They changed up the rubber recipe and he installed one and ran it dry for 30 mins. Cooked the housing and ruined the shaft but the impeller was fine.
