I use the Garmin E trek Vista. It relatively cheap (around $200) and offers one hand operation. I use it to fly with and have downloaded all the topo info.

Garmin GPS recievers, are the most intuitive units, on the market, very user friendly.

Of coarse, you know you will have more info then you can comprehend right? For what it is worth, I use the magellan Explorist XL. Little bigger then some but makes reading it easier at a glance. Has all the features I need and I am sure some I can't figure out. Little more $$ then some out there, got it from e-bay store $400-450 I think.
