I guess it makes sense Toyota would out perform GM on the track, given how they out perform GM at the dealership level.

Too bad its only qualifying set up. We'll see how they do come tomorrow. Hopefully they'll be able to stay in the draft.

Damn...one Chevy in the top 5, the rest are Totos.
They haven't raced yet though.
As Jacking Gleason would have said..."What the hell is the world coming to?"

It's an impound race. Meaning that they start in the same set-up that they qualified in.
The top 7 positions (top 8 fastest qualifiers) were "Go or Go Home" drivers. There were 51 drivers for 43 spots. The top 35 in points are guaranteed into the race, with 16 trying for the last 8 positions.
The guys in front (including all those Toyotas) are going to be donkey's in the race, and will probably fall out of the lead pack before the first pit stop.

Looks like one chevy in the top 6, The 6th being Villeneuve in a Toyota,
A rookie in a Toyota up front, someone will put an end to that.

I didn't know Jacques was in NASCAR until reading your post. A few years ago, he said he was considering it but it blows me away that he made the jump.
Back in 95, when Jacques first started driving for Williams, I watched an interview with Damon Hill (fellow Williams driver) in which Damon repeatedly called his new team mate "Jack".
Damon was straight faced about it but I think he did it to piss Jack off. :D

exactly they have to run a qualifying set up to get in.ANd its an impound race meaning you cant touch the car til the green flag(except to check air pressure).meaning they have to start the race before they can do anything else
so after 10-12 laps these toyota crap cars are going to start falling fast.remember they have to make good hp and get every bit they can get which also gives up durability lighter oils in motor, rear ends, lighter greases in whell bearings, and so on.suspension is set up different too all this stuff they will have to deal with on race day for 500 miles not just 5.25 miles

Yep, what Alan said! Qualify well, race like hell. Not surprised to see J Gordon at the bottom of the list. He and Jimmie Johnson are almost a lock to win this race.......

"Cashcar" is becoming truer every year.
Toyotat hasn't spent bazillions of dollars on the old aero cars; they've been in the wind tunnel from the git-go on the COT program, putting them ahead of the rest of the teams. They don't have untold millions of dollars worth of rolling stock and data that will become obsolete very soon.
With Gibbs signing up, and the bucks Toyota has spent to develop a book on the new car I think they are going to be a real force to reckon with next year.
Of course, the whole stock car deal is becoming a bit of a bore.
We have "Stock" cars that don't have a single "Stock" component on them, converted, in some case, from 4-door sedan EFI auto trans FWD V-6 deals to V-8 "coupe" RWD 4-speed cars with carbs.
Then the teams get their arses in a sling cause a corner is too low?
This thing is becoming nothing more than a template/formula series, they are busy taking all the creative engineering out of it, busy getting the boys to clean up their language so they can sell more sponsor crap, so they can get more money to create more mega millionare programs and pay for more cosmetic dental work between lessons on how to play nice fer the TV.
They need to bring the race back to the forefront; put those guys out there in cars that at least are close to what we could go down and buy, learn how to drive in the rain like the rest of us, or throw the whole thing out the window and quit calling them stock cars.
I dunno, but I miss Yarborough, The Alabama gang, Pearson, Junior Johnson, Smokey, and the people that seemed more real and less like a bunch of pitchmen hawking everything from Viagra to twinkies.

It has become boring .... since 2006 the attendance and tv ratings have been declining. They used to sell out every race, not anymore.

EXACTLY...They will be shuffled out in in the first 20 laps and the cars set up to win or run up front for the whole race will take over.

You hit the nail on the head. It would be nice to see them pull a Crown Vic or a Charger of the show room floor and race it like they did in the begining, a "STOCK CAR". This new era of race cars is a joke. Look what they did with the Daytona Prototype, Not a race car. Not like the LMP's that they replaced. I like the American La Man racing, and the SPEED World Chalange cars. I can't stand nascar and all of the stupid B.S that goes with it. And look at what ChoclateChip Ganassi is brining in next year. I can see the seats in these cars being filled with a name that no one can pronounce, just like open wheel. I'm glad I'm not a fan, this would piss me off.

Ill Second That- Nascar isnt Nascar anymore. Toyota is a joke, no bump drafting?
I spend a lot of time in Australia for surf trips, check out V8 super cars down there. Still huge corporate sponsors, great racing and 4 door sedan door slammers that run all road courses.
Hopefully Nascar finds its face, gets back to great american racing which made it so popular.

I'm not a big Nascar fan only watch 5 races a year.
After yesterday, do you still think Toyota is a joke? What has their record been is NasTruck the last 5 years?
No bump drafting, I think they forgot to tell the drivers. Well they did warn some people but they were fine with it on the straights and that makes since.
NASCAR isnt what it used to be and thats why I stopped watching a few years back.
Hopefully you saw the last 15 laps. Some of the best racing I've seen in a long time.:D
