Personally, I like Dave Rebello. He is much more a racecar engine builder than a boat engine builder....But he is so good that I feel he is immune to the adage that Racecar engine builders can't build boat motors.
He built my racecar motor(s) and my boat motor, so I have put my money where my mouth is.

Performance Machine in Manteca (209-239-2000). Walt has been building boat motors for over 30 years and has a solid reputation for quality and service. He's done a few of my friend's Olds motors with satisfactory results. He did the machine work and guided me through my BBC build and I've had 5 trouble free seasons with it.
If you don't mind a little travel, give him a call.

I will second the Rebello Racing. They have done/helped build all of my engines. They do many marine application engines. (performance/race)

I've heard nothing but good about George Santos and S&S Machine in San Leandro / Hayward.

well i decided on a shop... gonna be dealing with performance machine. Getting a fully forged 496 built for the old tahiti... Maybe ill get outa the hole a little faster huh? haha not to bad of a price either. fully balanced and blue printed, tuned and comes with a dyno sheet. The builder claims minimum of 650 ponies. Guess i gotta look into changing impellers..
