When I needed a new started I just went to a place that rebuilds starters and alt. They ussually have the resouces to buy and build anything you need.. Best part is that they know what they are talking about....

He's right. My guy stands by his work so I never have to buy new again.

Had mine rebuilt also. It cost $200 but it was beefed up a little bit. Problem is, it's STILL a Prestolite...

If it's a bottom mount just go to the local parts store and get a replacement and plan on buying one a year. If its in water it will have it's moments. Starters are not designed for wet situations and will rust and lose contacts and the boat people love to sell a MARINE starter for way more than what it takes to have a good time. If it is a BBC bottom mount with 2 bolts straight across from each other get a rebuilt part number 3510, If it is a 2 bolt diaginal get a part number 3689 both are high torque models and unless you are high H/P and high compression will last you the summer if you keep an eye on the bilge.
