Did they already announce it?

They haven't announced anything, but I know that was the threat before the end of the playoffs by the organization/owner/boss. I would assume that this is whats to come. Hope I'm wrong, since I'm not a Yankees fan:D

Steinbrenner and Jerry Jones.
Fire winning managers and coaches because it makes them feel like the team owners decisions are the real reason the team wins.

I hate the Yankees but like Joe Torre. I think he should quit and take a job with someone that would appreciate him...like maybe the Dodgers!

I have to disagree. That team screams dollars and cents. They would go if it meant more $$$. The Yanks have some record contracts and those players love their paychecks. It sure would be nice if they did go with Joe...It would change my point of view if nothing else:D :D

From what I've heard, Torre is not much of a teacher, but more of a personality conflict resolution specialist. :D The Dodgers are a pretty young team, they could really benefit from a guy that can teach, like Jim Leyland or Joe Girardi. The Yankees are a pretty seasoned team, they don't really need a big rah rah guy.
I think Derick and A-Rod are a perfect example of that lol....:D

If only someone could fire Al Davis........

Most of the radio hacks are saying A-Rod is going west. LA, is in the mix, and SF is in the mix with Bonds leaving and A-Rod being the new franchise player.
Lou Piniella looks to be high on the Yankees list. He's been there before. He won with the Red's after Torre.
I also heard Buck Showalter's name mentioned a few times. I like Buck, and would love to see him go to Yankees and win a series. I still feel he got a raw deal in NY and in AZ.

Pinella still has two years left on his deal.
I think Tony LaRussa is the most obvious choice.
Yeah, I heard that too. He probably is the guy. Stieny will get who ever he wants whether or not they're under contract, and who wouldn't want to go to the Yankees? Big time players, big time city and big time money. It's got to be the ultimate job.
Honestly I heard about ten guys rumored to be in the mix.

I think it's LaRussa's job for the taking. Plus, he has offered St. Louis no commitment on next season, a sure sign that he's looking at other options..
You're right, although he said he will not make a decision until they hire a new gm. Why play that card? you would think he'd be all over the NY job if it's been offered to him.
I think you underestimate the Cubs. They have $100m in 07 payroll, going to $110m next year, there's already a plan on the table for A-Rod and Mark Cuban is ready to make a serious ownership push...
What will the salary be with A-Rod on board? 150 million?
If A-Rod wants to have any chance at 800 HRs, there's absolutely no way he'll ever end up in SF. Scott Boras simply won't let it happen. Right handed hitters AVERAGE a home run every 45 at bats at Pac Bell park. The park was built for lefties and even they struggle there.
I never took him to be one to worry about personal records, but I guess in the end they all play for themselves and not for the team or the game.

I believe he played that card because he knew that the Cards would not hire a GM in 2-3 weeks. Ownership has said that he needs to make a decision "quickly", while he's said he won't do it until they hire a new GM. I believe he's forced their hand and can walk away without being the bad guy. I also fully expect St. Louis NOT to hire a GM anytime soon.
He's the King of Baseball right now. I think he could easily command an 8 year/$250m deal. Easily.
I don't think he's worried about personal records, but if you sign a contract in the $30m/year neighborhood, producing at or near your career averages should be a reasonable expectation. I don't think hitting 50 HRs a year playing in notorious NL West pitcher's parks is going to be good for a guy making all that jack. Plus, there's just no way that Scott Boras would let him sign that deal. Boras is all about putting his clients into situations where they can shine.

$200 million as a team this year.
isnt it like 1 billion + since they last one a world series:eek:
If I was Steiny, spent that much, I would expect to be leading every stat.
Or wonder who I hired and advised me to spend so much to get so little:D
