Hey...what does a ride plate do on a jet drive other than get it on plane faster than w/out one?....can u install one w/out a shoe? or do u need a shoe to install one also? what other benifits does a ride plate give other than making the rear end look cool? haha..thanx for the future advice...

From what I understand, it makes the boat think it's longer. Giving it something to lean back on when you're trimmed out, which helps to eliminate porpoising.

that's not a ride plate, it's a trim tab (which i need to install on my lake tanker, but that's another story)
a ride plate is an extension from the intake/shoe. it's purpose is to provide stability at higher speeds.
try to picture this. as the boat travels, water is lifted up into the suction piece from the intake. as the boat speeds up, a "void" (low pressure area) is created right behind the intake. this low pressure (like a vacuum) is completely surrounded by water, and the bottom of the keel. the pressure becomes low enough to cause water to change phase to a vapor. as the boat continues to increase in speed, the low pressure area can create instability at the keel. the plate provides a flat surface to control the low pressure and provide stability.
if you look at the bottom of a plate on a boat that routinely runs 100+, you'll notice that the center of the plate is not smooth. this is the result of the vapor molecules (created due to low pressure behind the intake) condensing back to liquid, giving up the vapor energy to the plate.

it extends the boat what ever length the plate is. also a goog start is 2 degrees up from level, then adjust as needed.they should be1/4'' thick min. and have sides to pervent bending.it depends also on the style and most important,engine/pump.some time its best to leave alone, and go with waht the boat came with.

"Here" is the HomePage (http://home.pacbell.net/jmcclure/).
Keep in mind, to do this properly you will be pulling the engine and pump to allow removal of the intake from the hull. The intake will be machined for a ride plate and shoe, then reinstalled. After that the pump and engine go back in. This isn't a quickie bolt on deal........

Absolutely. Gelcoat is pretty tough. MPD will do it right(as will the other pro shops in your area)
I had a feeling you didn't know what all was involved. Take a look at this last post by Busby (http://www.***boat.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2834634#post2834634) in a thread where he machined an intake for a shoe/rideplate combo.
No idea of the price. You will just have to give him a call.

if your jet doesn't come with one orig (ride plate)what do you do support the back of the ride plate ,turnbuckles off the transom?

oh no, a cradle that attaches it to the bowl...then the intake has to be machined flat for the plate to be attached w/ the shoe.

What can be done to help the hull molded pumps like the JE and JF. They come with a small factory ride plate and the shoe area looks to be molded into the intake housing. Can you install a longer or extended ride plat on the bottom of the factory ride plate and machine the front to extend the shoe area ?
Thanks!
