I have vonage at home only because of the unlimited long distance for $30 per month. At that price it's like a sore pecker.

Cell phone service sucks inside the house & only works decent in certain places outside at that. Three miles away from a friggin tower too, imagine that. We found this out right after we bought the place so we ended up getting a "limited service" land line hooked up, $15 bucks a month I believe....

I have Vonage cause it's only like $15 a month for 500min. You can get unlimited for like $25. but never came close to that.

I only have a home line because the satellite TV DVR has to have it for updating software. Another $25.00/month for television.

They just want you to think that. Mine and many other people's are not hooked up to a phone line.
But I do have a home phone. Only close friends and family have the cell phone. I don't need my hip to be ringing every second of everyday. Also have an alarm. And lastly when I'm at home and in shorts and comfortable I don't have all kinds of crap in my pocket, including a cell phone.

I have both... I can always find the base to my landline, as it is always in the same place EVERYTIME the phone rings... Can't quite say the same for my cell phone. I'm lucky I find it everyday prior to leaving for work.

Me, my wife and the three older kids all have cell phones. My ten year old is the only one that does not, but he is to young to stay home alone. The phone would ring and no one would answer it, we would all say its not for me, so I had it turned off 8 months ago.

The updates are done thru the satellite, not the phone line, I have not had my phone line connected since 98 and have received every update sent to my receivers.
Vonage house here, for $27.00 a month, you can gro wrong. Our alarm is wireless, it uses the Sprint network.

I have a landline, but it is used less and less. The primary reason for me keeping the landline is for dialing 911. I live in a remote area and it's worth it for me to keep it. I also have Vonage for my home business and it is linked to my cell (Free Incoming Plan w/Sprint). I turn off my cell at night because I don't want my East Coast customers waking me up at 4:30 in the morning.

We have Dish and my receivers are NOT hooked up to a phone line. I can save $5.00 mo if I hooked them up. Their claim is the program guide will be uploaded into the reciever via phone instead of the update through the Sat and that is cheaper for them. I call bullshit.
We use the home lines for business, fax, dsl, etc. Kind of have to keep them.
I looked over the fax bill last mo and the local toll calls are very expensive. WTF. Cell phone is cheaper than a home phone by a mile for what we do.

I'm gonna unplug it today, it's only hooked to the HDDVR. About a year ago, my regular DVR was the only one hooked to the line via wireless signal, that signal messed up and the DVR shut down about 1.5 months later stating I had to plug in for software updates. I received these for weeks before it shut down, but it did shut down and stayed out overnight while it said it was updating. I'll come back with a followup to this in a month or two and report how it goes. I would love to cancel that line, I don't even have a phone on it.

I have a home phone but I have no idea why. It is part of a package with my cable and internet so I think I only pay $5.00 more a month to include the phone. I don't even remember what my number is and the ringer is turned off on the phone. I have an answering machine that last I looked had 35 messages on it all of which are telemarketers since nobody I know has my home number.

Cell phones for home use.. Haven't had a land line in a few years. Internet at home is done through Charter. And like others I've never had a problem setting up/updating any of my HDDVRs. Vonage at my office (phone/fax) $49.99mo
