...for my wife. I set it all up and have been messing with it. I think it rocks! It has all the iPod features, plus internet, Google Maps, email, camera, photos, games, porn (did I say that outloud?) and YouTube streaming.
All you haters are crazy!
The interface is beautiful. The texting is super easy after about 20 minutes of practice. It has a cool little magnifying glass. And I can throw it to my daughter in the backseat to watch Mickey Mouse!
Now I need one for myself.

Cool! I've heard a lot of good things about it.
MY biggest issue with it is not how it works or what it does.....that all sounds cool. I just don't want to carry around something of that much value all the time. I like being about to pick and chose how much hardware I want to risk getting lost, broke, or stolen at any given time. But that's just me....the guy that launched his boat with his cell phone in his pocket two trips ago....

I went with my G/F when she was buying a new cell the other day and I was messing with the iphone in the store. I thought it was awesome, the way you can just thumb through stuff is fantastic. All phones should be this simple to learn. I campaigned for 20 minutes that she should get one but she kept saying it was too expensive, blah, blah, blah. I finally anoyed her to the point where she said "if you like it so much, why don't you just buy yourself one." and all I could say was "Fuc that, it's like $300 bucks. I don't need a $300 phone.":D

the hubby just WON one (lucky him!)...and his contract with Verizon is almost up...but he's extremely hesitant about switching to AT&T. We know you can get them unlocked & take them to any carrier, but then you cannot get any updates for it.
He's thinking about selling it.

There is nothing wrong with AT&T. But that is another thread.
Unlocked phones will work with AT&T, but I have been told that many, if not all, account specific features will not work, depending on the phone.

Hey Chris,
Well it took 3 trips to Apple to convince me to get the phone, but I did and have NO regrets! Bought one for me and my wife. Other than waiting for my iTunes to update it was an easy activation and the more I use this thing the more amazed I am! It's truely incredible!
Ironically I was wearing my RRX-6 shirt when I bought it. Don't know what made me thing of that

You just gotta have it emailed instead of txt/sms messaging.
You could go and hack yours like I did and change everything, just gotta be careful. As far as unlocking, I'm happy with AT&T so none of that for me.

It's really cool when you plug it into a Belkin car charger like you use for your iPod. Same connector. Even better when your car is equipped with an iPod plug so you can use the iPod part of the phone to listen to music in your car. Oh wait, that gives you a little "This Device is not compatable" message. Then the screen starts flashing and your iPhone over heats. Then you get a "This device cannot send or recieve phone calls. Return to Apple for Service." WTF Apple has a patent on the connector and all the manufactuers wire them to Apple specs. Then this shit happens. Take it into an Apple store Genius bar and you get accused of hacking your iphone. I'm glad we bought 2 of them. We'll always have a spare.:(

They really are so far ahead of any other PDA or cell phone made it's amazing. If you have a TREO or anything that runs windows mobile, you will be shocked when you get this. Everything is instant, no more soft resetting your frickin phones, so smooth. It is an awesome phone/PDA and so far advanced.
I had Verizon and switched to ATT the day the Iphone came out. I had Verizon for years. I haven't lost anything with ATT, in fact it works much better in Havasu for data. I didn't have any data hook up with Verizon every in Havasu.
Only bad thing as of now is no SMS cell phone pictures in or out, but you can use email. No biggie, I got used to it right away.
Awsome phone. You will love it. I know at least 10 buddies that got them and they say the same thing. No comparison to anything out there. I wouldn't recommend an unlocked phone right now either. They do downloads to the phones once a month at least to make awesome improvements based on customer complaints. IF you download an unlocked phone, most of the time they will lock it back up or screw up your system. You also don't get all the downloads and that is the best part of the phone. Your phone is always brand new with all the updates !! IPHONE Is the best !!

I've been a blackberry user for several years now. Until the iPhone I didn't think there would be a phone out there that I would like as much I have always liked my blackberries.
The iPhone is leaps ahead of any comptetitors device. I just went to a promotional road show Motorola hosted to pump up the launch of the new Motorola Q, they wouldn't stop talking about how much better it is then the iPhone, needless to say I told the Moto reps they were smoking crack, WinMo 6.0 is a POS and the Q has got nothing on the iPhone.
As far as sending pictures goes there's a really easy way to get around that. Every cell phone has an email address. I have my friends send me a text message but instead of sending it to my phone number I have them send it to my GMail addy then add the email addy to my contact info for them. This does 2 things, you are now not limited to the amount of characters in your message and you can message people without being charged for a text message.
As an FYI I work for AT&T, have now been through numerous iPhone trainings, and have personally read just about every bit of literature available for the iPhone at this point so I can answer just about any question you could think of. If you want to know anything about the iPhone just let me know.

Here are a couple easy ones:
Does the camera have a zoom? I can't seem to find one.
If I'm in the contacts section of the phone, can I type a name and have it search on that name or is the slider on the right side of the screen the only way to access contacts?
As for the device, I've tried them all, 3 different Black Berries, Treo w/palm OS and Treo with MS OS and the iPhone by far beats everyone one of them. My wife was a die hard Treo user. She has had the iphone for 2 days and says it's the best device she has ever used.
Even better when your car is equipped with an iPod plug so you can use the iPod part of the phone to listen to music in your car. Oh wait, that gives you a little "This Device is not compatable" message.
I asked about this before I bought it. My boat has the iPod interface on the radio. They said the iPhone and the new iPods will not work with that interface because they run a different software program. Oh well I guess my old mini just found a permanent new home ;)

The new Q9 is a cool phone, but a complete POS. I returned TWO of them in less than 30 days. I now have the Blackberry World Edition. It's an awesome phone. The only complaint I have with it is the lack of camera & when pix messages do get sent to me, they go to Verizon's pix website (because my friends are too lazy to program in my email in their phones & send 'em to me that way LOL) & I can never tell who sent the pics. It does make for fun guessing games though!

I'm not Boozer, but I know the answer to that...oh, and I have been called one  LOL
you have to pay the $175 (and quite possibly for EACH number on your contract, i.e. family plan)...but before you do that, you need to go to AT&T & get your number "ported", or else you'll lose it.
I'm still contemplating doing that, but not sure it's worth it at this point. I'm pretty fricken furious with Verizon....AGAIN.

The camera does not currently have a zoom. The hardware itself will support a digital zoom, along with video recording functionality as well but at this time Apple does not have software to enable zoom and recording. It is my understanding that Apple is currently working on an update to change this.
Currently the only way to scroll through the contacts is by flicking through the list or hitting the alphabet that corresponds to the name you are looking for on the side. Personally I hope Apple enables a search function in the future, flicking through 100's of contacts isn't to bad but a search would make it a bit faster.

Apple approached Verizon for the iPhone first. Verizon said no because Apple has a LOT of control when it comes to the iPhone, not to mention they charged a LOT of money for the rights to it.
As of right now AT&T has an exclusive deal with Apple to be the only carrier in the United states to offer the iPhone for 5 years. Considering that we are gaining subscribers as fast as we can sign them up thanks to the iPhone I can't imagine AT&T not renewing the exclusive agreement when the initial one is up.

Stick out the year and make the switch when you're out of contract. The 2nd Generation iPhone is rumored to launch late first quarter 08.
I have a fairly credible source that has told me the 2nd gen iPhone will have a 3G chipset and integrated GPS. Apple has publically contracted with a 3G chip manufacturer so 3G is definitely coming soon. There is also talk of up to a 32 GB storage capacity.

The film screen protector is over rated and in my opinion unneccessary. PC world did a test to test the scratch resistance of the screen, they put the phone in a plastic bag with about 50 pairs of keys in it and shook the sh*t out of it. After the test the phone was removed from the bag and the screen was examined it did not have a scatch on it. I don't have the film thing on mine and have yet to get a scratch on it.
The rubber case is an absolute must have in my book. I've thrown my phone across the room several times to demonstrate to people how durable the phone is with the case on it and have yet to have a single problem. My phone probably gets bounced more then some basketballs.

Yea, the screen protector isn't necessary. However, you will find that with the good Apple screen protector, it cleans alot better and easier. I have the good one on mine and it's even clearer and shinier than the normal screen. I highly recommend it, not just to avoid scratches.
I had the rubber case and 2 other cases. The best case out there is the Contour Showcase. It's hard plastic tight around the sides, with clear plastic like glass on the front portion, with the open screen. It has a clip case also if you want the clip to grab onto, and you can put it in the clip case face in to protect the phone completely. I have dropped it on asphalt and didn't even get a scratch. Highly recommended. the rubber one was ok but things stick to it and it doesn't go in your pocket real smooth, plus it doesn't have the clip case portion.

I thought my contract was up too, but when I went in with my phone that was near death & had , sure...eligible for upgrade, but contract wasn't up for another 3 months. I felt totally stuck, so I opted for the upgrade, which renewed my contract...
and I've been kicking myself ever since.
I hate Verizon....they really sealed the deal on that emotion for me after having to return the 2 Q's in less than 30 days.

Got an iphone, had it a week, didn't like the texting feature (which is mostly how I communicate with my friends) so I returned it and got the Blackberry Curve. It was 1/3 the price and I'm super happy.

100 wouldn't be bad....I have over 875 contacts  I'm sure a search feature is in the future and honestly it's not that big an issue. It scrolls pretty fast :D[/QUOTE]
You can touch the right side and scroll to the letters while in the contacts.

My wife took the phone to the apple store and they replaced it free of charge. For those of you waiting for your contract to upgrade, you can not upgrade to the iphone. It is well worth the
400.00. Nothing can be compared to it!

I paid 400.00 for the 8gb, plus change for the car charger and case. I believe apple is offering a rebate to earlier customers. I believe someone posted this.

My wife has an Iphone. She likes it, but I would destroy it at work. For all you Verizon guys. The new LG coming out soon is pretty sweet. Basically same as an Iphone, but it opens up and has a full keyboard. That to me is the only downfall with the iphone.
