Looks really good. Those wooden decks look really sharp. So much better than the old Chris Crafts. I'm looking at a 70-something Sanger Shovel nose, not wooden but I've always liked that design. Too bad Sanger went the way of the Roll-Bar boats.

Have you seen the thread where John Miller built from stuff he has saved up from the days his dad built boats? He built and has the photos on here from start to almost finished. All wood too! Looks like furniture not a boat!

Welcome aboard, ya poor bastard....J/K
Love the enthusiasm. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate. Love seein these old boats. I particularly love the design of your deck...(yeah, go ahead you thread munchers). That higher sided design was built with ski racing in mind, Haraln could answer that better than me.

Keep up the good work Bullmoose. I am very happy to see this Wickens getting the attention it deserves. I pulled it from a guy in Santa Cruz that totally did the wrong thing by leaving it out in the weather. The second owner said it was a nice show piece before the weather got to it. Best I could tell, it was just one winter. You are making better progress than I am on my projects.
Hope to see ya on the lake this spring, Keith

Thanks Keith you were/ are a good guy to do a deal with! When I lifted it off the trailer and looked it all over (Boat and trailer) you were very truthful about the whole deal . That trailer is built like a brick shit house -Thanks again

Bullmoose....
I am RCL's brother and yes we knew Bud Kanemotto well. His shop was right down the street from our dad's on Willow St. Bud had the first boat I ever saw with a throttle stop on the pedal. He knew how to tune a motor he did a lot of that for my dad. Mike (RCL) and I are in our early 50's and we probably hung out as kids with you.
That boat of yours could have been built by our dad too. He was the Aqua Craft dealer in San Jose back then

I'm 44 I'm Dan Holmes my dad was Bob you guys do beautiful work-did you go to the drags at the Oakland estuary? I remember seeing Panic Mouse and Conquest run there Bud's friend Floyd had a camper there and always had doughnuts for me The last time I saw Bud was when he visited us @ Tahoe years ago he was driving a Ferrari neat guy!

Yeah we went to Oakland all the time. In fact when I was very young they used to run circle boats at Oakland. I watch Panic Mouse and all the Bale brothers as a kid. Mike and I helped Roy Gollett run Swamp Rat a blown gas hydro.
I did a google search on Bud about three years ago and he was alive and well flying model airplanes. He hadn't moved far from his old shop.
I wonder if his friend was Floyd Carlson? Floyd drove an old SS boat that my dad built in the mid 60's.

Old Rigger,
Can I get a copy of that article or can you tell me which issue and date it was in? I'd really appreciate it. I've been trying to track down that article for some time. A friend said he'd seen it somewhere but that was all the details he remembered.
I have a '67 Wicken's Whirlwind I'm restoring. My folks bought it in about 1973. It was a very clean install when we got it. A guy in Covina did in his garage and he used a lot of good parts for that time. Then my mother gave it away and it got a sort of garish rebuild with someone trying to turn it into something it ain't. Then some other guy had it and it just sat in his driveway for years. Then I found it on the Trader and bought it back. Been storing it for about 18 years (mostly in Long Beach where we lived for about 10 years) and started restoring it last year. The engine was long gone (too bad cause it was a nice 435hp 427 out of a '67 Vette and would probably fund the whole rebuild now!) but the rest of the stuff is salvageable. We've got a short block we are working on now and am looking for injection and period correct heads and some other odds and ends. Got a real special engine going into it. I lucked into a neat old short block parts basket.
I'd really appreciate the information on the article. I tried searching the Wooden Boat web site first but go no luck.
Thanks!
