Welcome to world of the bottomless wallet!!! Great starter boat Sleekcraft has been around for a few decades and are VERY well built boats. They are a hand lay-up and not a chopshot hull and will take alot. I've had 350 chev JC berkely pump boats before and not a real rocket ship but not costly at the gas pump and easy and cheap to fix. Best wishes and hope for alot of enjoyment, Until you get the bug to go faster, then the sh@t happens!!

She just showed up today and i have not turned her over yet. I am trying to convince a few buddies of mine to come over and help me give her the once over. Its a fresh build, on the motor, and we did not do it so i want to make sure its all locked up tight before i try and do something stupid and turn her over with out actually giving it a once over..
Shes my first and i know she will not be the fastest out there however as it being my first that aint a bad thing. no reason to end up dead or broken my first time out. Its good to know your limitations.
If you need different pics let me know im happy to take what ever if you feel you can identify some of this. Just tell me what you need a photo of and ill make it happen.
Thanks

So is that a good or bad thing...
Is that a "kewl should work out fine"
Or a
"OMG dont turn that thing on or you will die!!"
I am a Rookie here so be gentle and use lots of lube please....

Not at all uncommon.
Delamorte, it will work just fine for you.
468 Miller, that diverter wouldn't work on your pump without changing all the control brackets and reverse gate.

I think SleekCraft called that model a Sportster, but the mold was originally a "Universal Eagle", possibly from the Memphis area in the early/mid 70's. The bottom is a Southwind copy and the deck is an original design, all tooled by Phil Percival.

Get a second job, embrace the idea of divorce, build a garage and fill it with parts that you will not use.
The more you spend, the less the boat will run.
If you work on it all year and run it ten hours, you are in the upper echelon.
Start shopping for 500 cubic inch motor, and a spare.
Begin picturing how you will rebuild the entire boat, since you will completely disassemble it this winter.
Begin taking lunch to the guys at your local machine shop.
Invite anybody who can lay fiberglass over for poker, and loose heavily to him.
Order the latest summit catalog and keep at least one copy in every room you ever spend time in.
Life as you knew it is over.
And I wouldn't have it ant other way!

. . . and order your Rex Marine catalog NOW! It should get there shortly after you are completely finished working on the boat.
BTW, looks like a nice / pricey exhaust on that. Congrats!

Mine's a 12JF (12JE with factory trim) and it's inset like that...great pump, just less options for the die hard race stuff. Do a search on here and you should be able to find some good info...you've already got a diverter so that's pretty nice :)

And so it begins. Oh sure.........it all starts out innocently enough
with the old I'll just get the spray stuff and shine this up a bit.

Yeah its a bit large. I was thinking about repacing it with one of the stainless steel ones with the OT headers. I think that might even it out a bit.

AND SO IT BEGINS.... :D
welcome,
hey I am on my second boat in just over a year, spent the whole first year rebuilding a 1978 Galaxie, did all wood, and made my own interior... BUT... it wasnt fast enough...
So now I am having (impatient1)Tom and his uncle build me a boat... Well as you can imagine, they are all right about the $$$$$, time, effort... but as one said.. ." I wouldnt have it any different!" :D

I gotta say, that is a nice one for a first jet boat! Maybe if my first one was like that I wouldn't have spent all the kids inheritance on it.
I can't decide which is more fun, Jet or V-Drive, so I spent the college tuition on a V-drive.
BUT, I let my wife decide which one to take out, so I get a lot of time allowance to work on them. She loves them! I am lucky.
Here is a pic., Delemorte, everyone else is tired of seeing them.
Tommy
PS- A word of advice, I would leave the exhaust as is. A lot of people are spending alot of money to convert to the exhaust you already have. Insurance, safety, noise for several reasons.

My boat experience has been limited to the kind with sails..
as far as the exhaust goes i might leave it. I got three sets of headers with it so my options are open.

Either seek psychiatric help now before it is too late....... or come over to the dark with the rest of us maniacs that spend way way too much $$$$$ on our jets......
One you start, there is usually no turning back..... ;)
Consider yourself warned

And don't forget to put in the plug. The bilge on a low pro boat fills up way too fast!
