I am looking for a CHEVROLET 1 TON MILITARY M1008 CUCV TRUCK. They are moslty mid 80's trucks with really low miles. Here's a link to what they look like. http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=592351&highlight=M1008 A friend of mine says that they are only sold at auctions. But there are some that are titled and on the streets after auction. I am looking for one if anybody here knows of one.

That thing is bad ass. Are you going to re-do one or leave it all military?

Leave it all Military just lift it and put some 42's on it, something like this. http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=620964&highlight=M1008

Part of the problem with Ebay is some of the guys think they are gold. They have a great running gear. I've heard they go for $2,000 ish but I see guys on Ebay asking $4,500-$5,500 and then you have to pay for shipping.
Thanks for looking on Ebay for me though, I should watch the couple on there to see where they end up on price.

No one will screw with you driving around in that thing. I have seen one for sale in Whittier on Norwalk Blvd, in between Washington and Whittier blvd. I will go see if it's still there later. Mark

Try this site. You can look at different states too.
http://www.govliquidation.com/index.html
At the top put CUCV in Keyword and Cali for the state. You should find what you want.

Yeh I just put that up there because it was a wierd set up. Yes I have a couple of small items. They just pack it up and ship. I am pretty sure it was this site anyway.
Probably just a private company that sells Military DRMO stuff for a cut of the sales. I did DRMO stuff for awhile when I was in.
There is alot of stuff up at French Camp, if that is anywhere near you. Herlong, by me, has alot. There are tons of the CUCV on the site but distance may be a factor there.

I think I the buyer pays this site 10 percent of the purchase price. I believe that is what I read.
I was thinking if I found something in Nev.Az. or Ca. I could pick it up in the next week. I am going to Vegas next week, Az maybe this weekend and I live in Ca. So I am hoping to find one with in those driving distance.

Yeah that one looks good. I picked up a Blazer once from our state surplus. It was gas engine but I paid $150 for it, replaced the fuel pump and drove it for a couple of years. :D

Andy, FYI most of them are 24 volt systems. Starter, alternator, blower motors, light bulbs everything is odd, and expensive. I have a few friends with Blazers and it is a pain.

Not sure where they got the 1 1/4 ton rating from. The 1008 pickup was considered a 3/4 ton truck when I was the motor officer. The 1009 Blazer was simply a half ton. There is a couple 12 volt fuses in the fuse block if you wanted to run 12v accessories inside the cab. Most of these trucks were abused bad, over maintained causing additional problems, and put back together by mechanics that were trained at the 6th grade level. Not bashing the mechs as we have some really good ones, but that is the level the military trained to. Check you State National Guard property disposal yard. They should have tons of these things, if you really want one.

it still had the 3/4 ton frame and the blazer had the 1/2 ton frame. The Blaser (M1009) was particularly dangerous as soldiers would hook up to 1 1/2 ton trailers and stetch and occasionally rip the frame in half with catestrophic effects. They were over built for what they were intended to be (a replacement for the 3/4 ton Dodge power wagons), but they were under built for the way the troops used them. If you find a good tight low mileage M1008 for a reasonable price, buy it. But, I know the abuse we put ours through and I've seen countless others all thrashed. Its like turning your boat over to someone else's teenage kids. Do you really think they will take care of it? I promise you, the majority of the soldiers driving these trucks ran the life out of them. Good project trucks but they've been ran HARD. I'm just saying, "buyer beware".

Well maybe I should look for a 3/4 or 1 ton normal Chevy then. I just liked the idea of the 14 bolt and Dana front. Half of what you have to put under other trucks is all ready there. I was wondering about the abuse of them. I guess I will continue to look at options. I started out wanting a Blazer but didn't want to have to change all the diffs and such to 1 ton. I just want a good desert truck 4x4 with some strong gears and such so I don't have to worry about it breaking all the time.

Friend of mine went this route & got a set of axles from that place, to put under his Blazer. The rear axle was the 14 bolt GM Corporate 4.56 gears with a Detroit Locker. It was a rebuild, while the matching Dana 60 front axle was brand spanking new in the original crate. :jawdrop: It didn't come with locking hubs though, it was equipped with drive plates. Good stuff for sure.
