So I just got back from meeting Eddie Hill (aka "The Texan") in Tulsa to deliver my Hondo runnerbottom to him. What an awesome guy! Stopped in St. Louis on the way back and picked up my new ride...an '85 ex-PGF Mako runnerbottom. I'll post pics soon. By the way, if you ever have to spend a night in Tulsa, I highly recommend visiting "Night Trips." :D

Eddie going to start racing?
He just wants to use it as a lake hotrod. 71 years old and he still has the need for speed...unbelievable! I think I'd have a hard time keeping up with him, and I'm just a young pup.

Ron Sapp bought this Mako brand new in '85 after he crashed a Cole down in Texas. He did the bottom, rigged it, and painted it. I'm going to pull the hardware and have it re-anodized, so I'll get some pics up of the progress. It will hopefully be running Pro Eliminator next year with a BBC blown and injected on alcohol.

I got the camera out only to realize that the batteries were dead! He gave us a bunch of autographed posters, pictures, and die-casts from the Pennzoil top fuel dragster. We met at Hallett Motor Racing Circuit just west of Tulsa where Eddie was racing his new Ariel Atom. Talk about a cool looking little car!

That is so awesome. One of the things I remember about my dad racing was seeing Eddie "the thrill" Hill at one of the races. I still have the program for it. ABDA 1985 official souvenir Program. It reads like this.
Boat Number: 689
Owner: Eddie "The Thrill" Hill
Hull Make: Krutis Kraft
Enigne Make: Eddie hill built Keith Black
Fastest Time Clocked: 229mph
Driver: Eddie "The Thrill" Hill
Home Town: Wichita Falls, TX
Number of years racing: 10
Marital Status: Married
Age: 48
"The Texan" is the 1984 High Points Runner-up, and during the 1984 season he won seven races and was the runner-up in seven. Eddie and "The Texan" have been racing coast to coast for ten years and have totalled an impressive list of victories and records. Some of these include the fact that Eddie hold 17 individual records for speed and elapsed time. "The Texan" is the first boat in all four sanctioning associations to complete the quarter mile in less than 6 seconds. It's also the only boat to ever hold top records in all four drag boat asscociations concurrently. Plus the only boat to ever break the record for elapsed time (5.16 seconds backed up by 5.17 seconds) in the quarter mile as set by asphalt dragsters and funny cars.
Additonally, Eddie is recorded in the current Guinness Book of World Records for the highest speed and quickest elapsed time ever attained bhy a propeller-driven boat. Plus, he survived the highest speed crash ever recorded of a propeller-driven boat at 217.91 mph witha 5.24 second elaspsed time.

Thanks, Richard. Going to pull the hardware out to have it all re-anodized and it'll be ready for a blown motor! See you in less than a month. You can owe me a beer for putting me out in the first round at my hometown race! No really, I insist. :D

Speaking of anodize, can any of you California boys recommend a good place? The quality in the Midwest is terrible, especially with picky dragboat racers. I had heard Aerodynamic Plating in Gardena does good work. Any others?

I will find out were andy had my stuff done at. I think its is alumart.

Yes, Lester is correct, Aluminart. If I am not mistaken that is who Andy DeMent and Bill Diez use. If you have not seen the anodizing on the Red Alert or Ace of Spades boats, you are missing out on some really nice work. Can't wait to see the new boat Adam.

Adam, I also have to ship my stuff across the country to have it anodized. I use aluminart also and they have always done outstanding work for me. They also get it back to you pretty fast. See you in Phoenix!

Aluminart it is! Anyone have a phone number or address for them?
Randy, I'm really looking forward to seeing you and Dan out in Phoenix in 3 weeks. Sure wish I was bringing a fast flatbottom out, but we'll work towards next year!

Here's a picture of the boat that Ron Sapp sent me when he was running it as "Tuff Toy." This would have been '86 or '87 when it was new, so the picture quality doesn't do the boat justice!

It needs some polish and anodize, but it will be looking great next year, you can bet on that. Last I talked to Dan he was still planning on making it out to Phoenix with Lanny, but I haven't spoken to him on the phone for a couple of weeks. I'll definitely look you guys up!

Nope, the Mako's just have a longer deck than most t-deck runnerbottoms, which makes the "cockpit" area a little smaller.

Will do. Same area as last year? I'll be looking for Caleb's white and blue TR2.

As Ron said, that looks like a cliff shot from Waco. Twenty year old shot is probably streched a little. Ain't no way Ron was as tall as he looks in that shot. But man what a good looking boat.

Lester, you don't have to call me a superstar, but I sure do appreciate it. Just kidding. Best of luck to you guys, and I'll see you in a few days.
By the way, I just realized that there is a picture of my Mako (Ron Sapp "Tuff Toy") on the Liquid Quarter Mile poster if anyone has it hanging around.
