You will hear guys say to do it yourself but after watching the crew come out and the chemicals used and the amount of epoxy, no homemade kit will ever come close. We were charged about 1200.00 and that was for a 20x22 garage.

looks great!
Not worried about paying a professional. Just want someone who does a good job for a reasonable price. Have two garages to be done. 1- 12 + 20
2- 20+20.

$1,200.00 OUCH! I bought a kit on sale at lowes for $70.00, rustoleum. Yes not much for color choice. But heck the U coat it is around $200.00 or so. What brand did they use? Thats a lot of dough for a two hour job. Some of these kits are made to just put it on, no etching. It's to easy to pay some one to do it.

Prices will start at about 4/ sf and go up from there for a decent product.
Let me ask you this, do you have a good vapor barrier underneath the slab? If not it don't waste your money, it does not matter what product is used its just a matter of time before it starts to peel.
Don't expect the kits you buy at the box store to last more then a few years of use... it would actaully be better if you bought oil basied "side walk paint" and used that instead, it would last longer.

I did mine myself with the home kit from Home Depot 3 years ago and have no problems, and no reason to believe I am going to. One tip... it was really hot out when I did it, and if you don't move fast it will dry and leave some minor streaks. (not bad though) I also did what the first pics posted in this thread did and painted the base boards so I can hose the garage out w/o water getting under them. When I do hose and use a push broom to give any spots a light scrub, the little flakes you throw in it will come up and bit, but not enough to make any difference.

If you need a quote, let me know. Been doing it since 91 and can give HBrs a better price than most.

I did my own. I used the Lifedeck products I think. Materials were over $500 alone...
Plus a couple days of serious prep. Grind down on the slab was a major pain. Super dusty, bent over for hours.....killer on the back. Primer, base coat, color coat with flakes, then two top coats, the last with UV protection. It turned out badass though. Spraypaint just wipes off, doesn't scratch or chip. The flakes don't come off either.
Put in some nice gray cabinets from Dixieline Lumber, and I had a couple leftover matching pieces of granite slab so they are on my counters....the garage is nicer than my last house... LOL

I did my own two years ago using the Rustoleum kits from Lowes. The concrete was brand new so there was less prep required than on an existing surface. Came out nice....No problems so far.

It was a 3 day job off and on and the chemicals that they used required gas masks of sort. I could not even stand in front of it when they were working. The 1200.00 was about 2.5 years ago. I will have to have my wife dig up the company as it was a birthday present to me.

This is what I used and the same color. The etch was easy and it cleaned off the rest of the driveway on the way to the gutter, cool. For $70.00 buck's I couldn't pass it up. I would take a pic but all you would see is the wife freaking junk!!!!! God made women to mess up the garage.

I wonder if you can apply that to an outside deck/walkout patio:idea:

Lifedeck and Pacific Polymers both have outdoor products. But prep is the key to longevity on any of these coatings. I read that 70% of the time spent should be on prep and only 25% on the application of the product.
The last 5% should be spent drinking a beer and admiring your work. :D

I coated my floor by myself (2,000sq ft) using the product at lowes. Rustoleum Brand. My boat, Jeep, and other toys on it all the time with no problems. It has been two years now and still looks new. I figure if I have to re-coat every ten years that is ok. If Dean needs help let me know. Two people can get it done pretty quick.

Then what will stick to painted wood, and be waterproof that you can walk on?

Pacific Polymers...that's a name I have not heard in years...Elastomeric and coatings manufacture....Kor Klause had some pretty cool Xmas parties as his place in HHarbour...family used to be in the waterproofing biz..
I had someone do approximately 1000 sq ft in my garage and it was just under 3K...that was for 3 coats and a clear...1st day was all prep, clean, dry and then next day 1st coat...seemed like it took a 4-5 days for them to finish....each day sand rough spots and another coat...very think broadcast of chips...would not do a single color or light broadcast as tiretracks make the floor look old quick...with thick broadcast of chips it hads tiretracks and streaks from cleaning very well. I mop the garage about every two months and it looks brand new...

Ply with a outdoor deck paint on it. It didn't seal properly and I need something thicker.

That is correct Epoxy for inside only. I still may put on the clear coat but it is holding up strong so far.

I just bought some from Sherwin Williams to recoat my garage floor. I used this same stuff 6 years ago and it still looks perfect, just want a fresh coat. Cost was about 130.00 for the two gallon kit and worth every penny.
Whatever you do don’t buy that crap from Home Depot or Lowes.

Instead of epoxy like everyone else, have your concrete stained. LOTS more options of colors and designs.
