Anyone know the tech info on this? Wondering how much difference there is at various RPMs.
Thanks!

You would think a boating question would get a faster response. :)

Not a tech guy but I would say the higher the rpms the higher the fuel consumption, just a guess though :D

Not sure Merc releases that stuff, but I think there is a formula somewhere based on HP produced vs fuel consumed.
Why the hell would a baller like you care anyway?

just a wild guess here but I think it will use more. :D
26% more.
If you can afford the motor, you should be able to afford the gas... :)

OK, I guess I need to be more detailed. :D
At 3500 RPMs, how much fuel does each motor consume?
At 4000 & 4500, same question. :)

Mike,
If you have a line on a couple of 525's and you change your mind, please let me know. I would love to upgrade to 525.
Based of the guys I run up and down the River with, who have 525's, the difference in fuel usage seems to be small.

If you have to ask then dont do it:D They both (HP500vs496 HO) gobble up the fuel I know that, seems about equal for me in the same boat also, but if you have a set speed you like to travel I know for sure the rpms are quite a bit less with the blue motor if that helps:idea: NSF>>> PS with one step up in prop size of course.

Right now I cruise at 3600 RPM and run about 36 MPH.
I would like to run 3600 RPM and cruise above 40. Would also have a top speed around 60. :D Crazy speed, I know. :)

Yes, 5000 RPMs.
I am running dual props 28s on it. Everyone else with a boat like mine is running 26 duals.

1 gallon = 12 hp for an hour

Magic34
10-22-2007, 11:37 AM
1 gallon = 12 hp for an hour
At what RPM? Based on that formula, the 525 will consume 6.25 more gallons per hour, but at what RPM or is that across the board? WOT, just 6.25 more than the comparing motor? 3500 RPM, just 6.25 more than the other motor?
So after running 5 hours at whatever RPM, I will have used 62.5 more gallons over the 496HO?

I think the only true comparison would be both motors in the same type of boat otherwise you have weight, hull, length, etc, etc coming into play.
On the other hand i'd think with more HP you can run the same speeds at lower RPM's thus actually burning less fuel and not as hard on the engine. That's what I told my wife anyway as i'm doing the 496 to 525 swap in 2 weeks. ;) Thanks Ultra!

Between my Magic DB with a 496 and my Eliminator with a 525 I think the Eliminator actually sees a little better fuel consumption. I would say the Magic weighed more so that might be the reasoning behind it.

Sooner or later you'll upgrade to bigger , don't bother molesting your new boat . Next time step up to a Magnum like this one . it will put you in the speed range you desire  :D

The GTO got the first rounds of mods this weekend. Should be good for low 12's before the blower goes on:devil:
I also know that a duck is a duck and that thing was designed to be a luxary cruiser not a 75+ mph boat. I honrestly think it would be a better investment to order a new 26' Ultra Stealth with a 525 from J/W.
Best of both worlds and you wont loose as much $$ in the long run;)

Curious how you get a 6.0 GTO into the low 12's without a blower?? Maybe I misunderstood.
I agree that Mike should pickup a 26 Stealth from JW and use it like a dingy. :)

Bolt-ons,Tuning,Drag bags, Mickey thomson Drag radials and a 3200 Fuddle stall.
The car made 350 rwhp with only a tune
Realisticly the car has a 12.39 in her right now at about 110 on a sub 1.7 60'
I am gonna skip the nickle and dime stuff (headers,ud pulley) and do a blower after the first of the year and the car should run mid 11's at about 118 and still pass smog.
Here is a 06 Auto GTO with nothing more than a maggie. 11.99 at Vegas is pretty impressive and his car has never ran ultra strong.(He needs a verter for 11.5)
