What is the Aluminum insert good for and what does it do?

The aluminum insert changes the size of the opening of the jet stream from the pump.
Inserts of different sizes allow you to tune to a small amount the pressure leaving the nozzle.
Works on the same principle as a fighter jet's exhaust. Larger opening=more water=less work to pass water=less pressure, smaller opening=less
water=more work=higher pressure.

Mopar.. You are talking about a velocity ring, some call these things a choke. A ring reduces the size of the nozzle diameter thus increasing nozzle stream speed or velocity. They are used to fine tune a set up . Some rings are even cut at an angle so that you can raise the jet stream a few degrees. A stock berkeley nozzle diameter is 3.250 inches. A std place diverter nozzle size is 3.125 inches. You can also get nozzles that will take different size rings with a quick change set up. We sell all of these items,
