I am currently buying and building my first jet boat.I have had alot of conversation about what carb i want to use. for now it will have a single carb on a slightly built 454 two bolt mains oval port heads. rv cam.edelbrock 2161 intake.
Most of the peaple i talk to tell me to go with the holley 750-850 double pumper and i was set to go that way but now a few have told me to with edelbrocks 850 double pumper. Help me make up my mind.
thanks again for your imput

I have friends with simular boats and for the money, efficency and minimum problems a pair of holley 660cfm or even 600 cfms will more than do the trick....

i do plan on building a second motor for it but this way i think i can get it on the water by mid sept. the hull is in good shape but the interior needs to be redone and that will be done before i splash it. but i will find and build a motor that will scream by next summer

i have a holley 850 dual feed vac secondarys on hold for me but everybody tells me that the engine will not produce enough vac to open secondarys

if you plan on runnin a tunnel ram or a high rise intake you may not have enough vacuum. I ran my old 455ci olds with an Offenhauser tunnelram & 2-holley 600/vacuum secondarys with no problem. Acually it ran better with them than with the single Holley 750cfm. The worse thing you can do is to go to to big of a carb cause you will wash your cylinders and that's not good at all.....Get the rigth size carbs for you're cubic inch & cam....

ok if you go with the vac. sec. then know that you will have to put a sprng kit on the carb (20$) and test and tune till you get the sec. working as you like. now if you were to go with the dubble pumper(mech. sec.) you can stay lite on the gas with keeping you foot out of it. i my self, on my stock 460 had a 850 holley mech. sec. which is what i perfer. good luck! oh by the way now i have two 750 mech. sec on top of my tunnel ram. see you on the water. http://free.***boat.net/ubb/wink.gif
