It wasn't Vegas, it was just outside of Phoenix and it was 11 years ago. But thanks for recognizing that accomplishment.;)

It was, and still is, Larry "Hollywood" Hamilton. His claim to fame is recorded in the APBA records books.......His fame as a great competitor, a sportsman you could take to the bank, and an overall racer's racer, is fact, jack! I wish him nothing but the best in his new endeavor..........Congratuations Larry......Ray, and the PS89 team...........
PS: listen to Chris Kenner and the stories when Larry went "Down under" to race........

Just talked to my buddy. He said Larry didn't get his license. They made a few passes but couldn't keep his foot in the throttle, a lil scared of the beast lol

One pass his foot came off the gas pedal. The rest of the passes I heard were real good. He is going to Florida get the full passes in. Thats all he needs to be in the mix for next season.:) ;)

Not sure who your buddy is but Larry did an outstanding job given this was his first time ever in a Nitro Funny Car. Larry did exactly as he was told to do by Paul Smith (car owner), Larry suitably impressed Paul & his crew along with many big name NHRA bystanders who were watching. To add to this were told by some noteable NHRA owners & drivers on the day that it has taken a number of current NHRA pro drivers between 30 - 40 attempts/passes to get where Larry did in just 3 passes!!!!!! So in my books it was an awesome effort & as I was there for the day personally myself with Larry & Paul Smith's team I have to say Larry did an amazing job & impressed many people. Just want the information here to be 110% accurate rather than hear say.
As already stated previously in this thread Larry is now booked in to complete his NHRA Funny Car license the week after Thanksgiving in Florida in Paul Smith's car.

well whatever he did it must have been up to par because he has to have licensed drivers and the track manager sign off on each pass so he was doing something right.

Never said he did a bad job, didn't mean to come across that way if I did.
But damn Paul made some dough to make those 3 passes(4 technically).
$30k is a grip, but hopefully he gets it next time out.
I was also told that many drivers couldn't even get near as far as Larry did. Some guys just get in the car and fire it up and don't do anything with it, "Fock that!" :D
I guess the two cars they had their didn't fit him very well either
