Sorry for the delay on these. The media center wasn't liking me for some reason last night and I got tired and said screw it. Anyhow, here are just a couple of the shots from Powell last week. We launched out of the Stateline marina because Wahweap was full. We primarily stayed in Friendship cove and used that as a base of ops to explore the lower 3rd of the lake. I only got to go as far north as bouy 51 so I'm already looking forward to anonther trip. BTW, I didn't upload any pictures of the houseboat, but the thing kicked ass at 55' and everything you could possibly want short of a kegerator. :) Thanks to the Ashcraft familia for being such accomodating hosts.

What?! No kegerator?! How rude!!! lol.
The pics are bitchin. I bet you had a blast there. I'd love to go to Powell, but it would be a hell of a trip, towing the Heatseeker that far.
Maybe someday...

Great pictures! I was there two weeks ago. There is nothing better for boating. At around mile marker 69 starts the ESCALANTE RIVER ARM.There are great canyons and coves back in there. We parked our houseboat at the very end of the arm(+- 15 miles back) on a huge sandy beach for 4 nights. I cannot wait to go back!

They're nice to look at to give you a vague idea, but the lake is one of those things that you have to be on to really grasp. As far as the low water situation. Its down around 36 feet or so from normal according to the NPS rangers. I posted a shot of Glen canyon dam, and then the canyon on the other side(non lake side) to give folks an idea of how deep the main river channel is even when its 30' down. You can check it out at http://www.banderlog.com/dcforum/DCForumID1/1216.html

Did you leave from Wahweap or the other marina to the north of Dangling rope? The pictures I should have snapped were of a 50' houseboat in the canyon at Rainbow bridge. If you went down that far, you know that the left turn off of the main canyon is no wider than 20' and choppy as hell. I would have loved to see them sneak that houseboat through the crack. :)
I'm waaaaay stoked on the place and will be making plans to head up there again next year, though I don't know if I'll be lucky enough to go with the same group and on the same houseboat.

i plan to go this weekend if all works out.I have been going there for 15 years and have seenit 70 feet down in the main channel the only thing you will notice is the hi water line.were we camp its a different story.
I have taken my jet boat to the escalante arm too.it is a long drive but was worth the day out and camping at night.my uncle who was with us with a 16 ft o/b went on the next day to bullfrog area.

The left turn is tight. I was glad to see that sign with the arrow ->" rainbow bridge this way". When I hit that turn there was a tour boat just about to come back through--I had to back up and let him go first. I laugh at the thought of a houseboat going through there.
As far as the lake level being down, everything is well marked. If anything it makes for better beaches.Dont forget to get icecream at Dangling Rope and Halls Crossing marinas.

Boy, that is some pretty country...only been once 32 years ago to pick up small rig and tow home for someone. Picture a brand new 1970 Malibu misty green, dark green landau top...springtime...125 miles of muddy roads...Halls Crossing water so clear you could see down 15-20'...Hooked up the boat next morning, ready to haul and transmission wouldn't shift...locked up! Opened the hood...mud solid on top and under engine...dried over night..washed it off and drove home. But, I do want to go back...the road coming out of Cortez to Halls was dirt then and scary as hell being about 7'-8' wide in places, wet slicker-n-snot with a 300-500' dropoff on the left! Could some post a big map of Lake Powell so every one could show the better places to go?

Powell is awsome, spent the weekend there last fall, 2 nites at Walweap and a free boat rental for the day......went to Rainbow Bride, what a haul that was.....on the way back stopped at Tangling rope for fuel......I want to say I paid $2.80 per gal., plus oil. It was well worth the adventure. I give it 2 thumbs up.

Sweet pics. I too have never been but have never heard a bad thing about the place except for one story... I guy I know was towing his low-pro jet behind the houseboat when a guy in a huge off shore blasted directly behind the jet (vertically) and sent a 5 foot wave over the back end sending it to the bottom. By the time my buddy got to the back of the houseboat all he saw was a tight bowline aiming straight down. Obviously the big boy was not RA. :(
Anyways I heard that houseboats must be reserved 12-18 months in advance. Is this correct? Anyone have a company they recommend good and/or bad?

ALOHA 79--It is a good idea to plan your trip at least a year in advance. lakepowellvacations.com is a good place to start. I always rent the 59'admiral.This last trip we had 7 adults and 7 kids with plenty of room.We started at Wahweap Marina. A good tip is to check into the houseboat the night before your rental starts. They charge you +- $100 for the night. This way you can load up the houseboat and be off the dock at the crack of dawn and start your vacation.

We were at the World Finals last November and visited Lake Powell, after the race. That is a great place, one of the nicest I have ever seen. Too bad it is so far away. I highly recommend it for everyone.
