Has anybody been there found it the other day in my trails book, but had no pictures of it. Whats the terrain like? All sand? Any info would be great. I have a brother who lives in Mammoth, thinking about making a riding trip up there. Any other good riding up in that area that I should know about?
Thanks in advance.
Nate

Never been there. But if you do a search at images.google.com you'll see lots of pics. For example:

Have fun! :)

My father in law lives in Crowley Lake. We took our quads up there over Labor Day weekend and rode all over around MAmmoth and surrounding areas. Its a trip to smell pine trees while riding instead of dirt. :) there is TONS of riding up there.
Never been to Olancha Dunes though. :)

Nate,
Check with BLM to make sure the dunes are open for riding. I know back in the 80s they were closed to off road. There is an old hot spring, "Dirty Socks", 4 or 5 miles after you turn off 395 onto Hwy 190 (north side).
Darwin ghost town is not too far from there as well. There are a lot of interesting places in that area.
Remember to check with BLM for the areas you want to ride off road.;)

TPC is correct. Those dunes are closed to any OHV. Mammoth is a fun place to ride and 4-wheel. The big deal is they want you on all marked trails only. There are marked trails around the dunes but last I was there not into the dunes.
My parents owned a house just off of lift 15/24 for 30+ years. Sold it just about 5 years ago due to my dads health. I spent my childhood around there on weekends and have even raced in the Old Mammoth Motocross several times.
Great place. Miss it a bunch.
