I've finally decided to go with a high performance oil pump and might as well put in new main bearings. I also need my jet looked at as well. Can't rev over 3500rpm's and can't get oil pressure over 27psi.
So far I've put on a new 750CFM carb, replaced the whole mechanical and vacuum advance, all my electrical is brand new. I put in a new "autogauge" oil pressure gauge so I know it's reading right.
If anyone is even as far away as Stockton I don't care. I'm willing to pay someone to do it right because I'm tired now of messing with it and my limited knowledge.
Thanks!

SOS Marine in Granite Bay next to Roseville, A little far but worth the effort. Ask for Jory or Shawn. They are the ones who set up my ride.

I've been reading your posts for about a week and finally became a registered user just to give this response:
After six years of great times with my 445 Olds jet boat, I began to have all the same problems you've been having. First I replaced the carb, rebuilt the heads, then a new fuel pump, then a new ignition, then the gauges. After an erratic oil pressure problem I took the motor out and found the baffling in the oil pan had got caught up in the rotating assembly, knocked off a piston skirt, plugged up the oil pump pickup and basically tore up the bottom end. I took the motor over to Rettig Bros Machine shop in Modesto and the rebiult it with new pistons, rings, bearings oil pump (steady 50-60 pounds-YEA!), machine work, cam, lifters, completely new :) valve train and complete assembly from carb to pan for about $1,500. Its not a rocket ship, but the family ski boat runs great and is very reliable.
After replacing the engine I had Walt's Hot Boat of Modesto rebuild the jet for about $900. I just put it on the water this weekend and it worked fine with some performance gain. Walt has a cool website for more info.
By the way the engine rebuild and jet rebuild each took about 2-3 weeks.

Right now, I'm a little upset with it, but it looks so good on the water. Here's pics from this past weekend...

Your boat looks awesome. I have like the same boat, except mine is a Tahiti. Y ou seemed to get rid of the disco look that is my boat all over. I'd love to see some interior shots, because I am having a hard time to find seats that fit w/o touching. My back seats are jump seats that face each other. With four people it is tight, so everyone needs to be very good friends. Again, nice job on the boat.

[QB]Your boat looks awesome. I have like the same boat, except mine is a Tahiti. QB]thanks for the reply. it's a 1972 Tahiti.
The seats I got look as the following:

Now anyone, if I wanted to put in a big chevy and scrap the 455, what would I expect to pay? Is there anyone that takes a used Olds 455 as a trade? Then there are the motor mounts, bell housing, etc..... this is almost as big a pain as the 455 is.

Diggler,
Glen at Pleasureboat Specialties In San Jose. He has a very good rep in the area. KZ reccomended him to me becuase he uses him a lot. He's near Trimble off 880. (I've actually not used him because I'm currently very poor.)
Also, from what I've been told, the high volume oilpump is not the way to go on the Olds. On the Olds its not "how much", its "where".

Good luck, hope this helps.

Diggler, your boat looks great. I would like to know where you got it painted and about how much it cost.

Diggler, Thanks for the pictures. Is your boat 16' or 18'? I thought it was a 16', but it seems that you have some extra space between the front and back seats. My back seats face into the center and actually touch the front ones. Here's a bad picture of my boat. It's a 1972 also, but seems to have a few differences. I was going to sell it, but looking at your it might have potential. It served me very well for years as a ski and board rig, but since I mostly just cruise now, the design is showing flaws. It is a fast hull, though. I get 59 mph @ only 4000 rpm, my olds motor has been running good for almost 10 years w/o a problem. I'd love more speed, but I don't want to start having all the olds problems that the rest of the board seems to have.

DGPainted it myself.... Four coats of "Interthane Plus" two-part polyurethane. ($50 a quart!)
The paint jobs isn't the greatest, believe me!, but I did it myself. The graphics I had custom made through www.lbgraphics.com (http://www.lbgraphics.com)
They're vinyl, but they've been on over six months with no peeling, so I can't complain.
Here is a pic of the boat being painted....

http://free.***boat.net/gallery/Reader_Rides/Jet_Boats/PF_at_Lost_Isle_2.JPGDiggler where is that Photo taken at. Thanks Dave[/QB]I was anchored off the Lost Isle. Bad news though... I took apart the engine last night and found that my cam had eaten a few of my lifters.... A complete rebuild is now in order. I had one guy quote me today that it would be about $2,000 to do it. I can't do it myself as I don't have the knowledge or machine tools necessary. God, what a black hole!!!
