Have any of you converted your trucks to propane? If so how do you like it?

Why? What kind of truck is it? If it a Cummins I'm your man. If it's a Powerjoke or Duraslack I can't help you!:)

I'm just curious if anyone on here has done it. Unfortunately I'm not a Cummings fan. I will never own a Dodge.:D

I wouldn't drive a Dodge if it wasn't for the Cummins. I'm into big horsepower and drag racing diesels and for that you can't beat Cummins.

I see.. Well you had mentioned that if its a Cummins your the man.. have done it to your truck?

It ups the milage, and power output nicely. But if using with a chip or programmer, be careful on the amount of propane being injected, cause there is no timing on the propane injection. This can result in uncontrolled detonation.

HELL NO! I will never run propane injection. I like my engine in one peice. I hit 566hp in my old truck easily on straight diesel. Propane injection isn't a good idea. Do water meth injection. Much safer and it cools EGT's with the right mixture.

Are there are there any programmers that are designed to work correctly with the injection? Or is this the same with all programmers?

Go to www.dieseltruckresource.com and search for propane injection. See what they have to say about it.

No that I' am aware of...." Propane/nitrous=drugs" drugs are bad on diesels, more reliable power can be made on Diesel alone. If chips or programers don't cut it, then look into injectors, turbos, exhaust, and HP injection pumps. on the fords anyway

I've seen a lot of people use nitrous and it's a lot more effective on diesels than propane and safer when used properly. At the DHRA Nationals in Houston this year, I saw a lot of nitrous but no propane at all.

Unbelievable, why propane or nitrous....I guess I am just getting old, most diesels these days run well enough from the box, I dont give a rats ass if you like Dodge, Ford or Chevy. Your gonna come on here in another two months bitchin about what a POS your ________ (fill in the blank) is because it sent a rod south, it blew out some injectors, you stretched some head bolts, your warranty was canceled...and why...because someone needed bigger balls to say he kicked the other _________ (fill in the blank) truck.

Not really. My 95 Dodge with a 12 valve Cummins is still going at 250,000 miles with 500hp. If you know what you're doing, they'll hold up. Thats why you get some head studs so they don't stretch. The diesel world is a whole other world.

Umm ok. Well I respect your opinion. But.... Thats like saying everyone should be happy with a HO or 525. The reason people aren't is why companies like Teauge, Paul Pfaff and DNE are in business. Some people like custom as much as some prefer stock and reliable with a warranty. Theres nothing wrong with either one IMO, Its all a matter of preference.

The difference is that propane is another fuel source. When you start injecting it the EGT's will go through the roof, where as nitrous is basically more oxygen (the simplest explanation possible) and will cool the intake charge, and subsequently the EGT's, which will allow you to introduce more fuel into the engine, thereby making more power. Unlike a gas engine, the more fuel you throw at a diesel, the more power you're going to make, right up to the point that you melt it down. :jawdrop: :D

Exactly. You just need to be able to give it a lot of air. Either with twins or a big single.

Dodge has a new V8 Cummins coming out soon. No particulate filter, lots of snot reasonable MPG.
But, we'll always be loyal to GM/Allison.

All I know, with the current price of Diesel Fuel (some .70 cents a gallon) higher then Regular grade Gas and rising strong, I'm looking to unload it.
After owning a Diesel for 20 years I lost the excitement of owning one.:yuk:
