Andre, you are going to love the extra power. I'm hoping to find a used 525, as I don't want to spend the cash to go new.
Congratulations on the upgrade.

John, I'm just hoping to reach your speeds ;)
A few more....with the moter going in. Underneath the dash,or near it he was installing the new brain, safety neutral, alarm system, etc that came with the 525. I got an really good deal on the engine/drive/ package that was too good to pass up and John W was good enough to work with me on a installation package so that I could have it done by someone familiar with the boat. Looks like water test tomorrow!!!!

As I just said in another post though and I'm not knocking anybody, I hate it when the shop doesnt protect your interior while working on your boat, dirty shoes, oily wrenches on the interior, laying all the stuff on your boat that had to be removed. Maybe its just me but my mechanic (cuz) DOES NOT DO THAT to any customers boat. All it takes is some old sheets or fender protectors. I know, I'm too picky but hey, its your pride and joy right?? Good luck and you'll enjoy it:D NSF

The upgrade is coming along nicely.
It's turning out that my 26 is/was a bit of a freak. Most of the other HO powered 26's Ultra has built, have been topping out in the low 70's. Not sure how much the CMI's and the Merc labbed 28 have had to do with my top speed. I'm still hoping to come across a 525. I ran into some friends last night who know a 26 owner named Alex, who found a 525 (motor only) in Vegas for
7K.

If your asking me then yes it was:) The only snafu's were the trim switch had to be rewired and has no trailer mode and the tailpipes didnt line up but Fab Plus did a very neat job of making that part look as it should have, GOOD:D Of course my cuz did it for me and he makes it all look easy, but it really was a pretty straight forward swap, just pull one and drop in the other. Oh and buy another prop, thats it, and all for only ????$$$$$. NSF

I just dropped my boat off this morning to have the 496 pulled. The 500 should be here by the end of the week. I have decided to pull the pro charger off. I don't want anymore headaches than I have to have. How much prop did you upsize? I am currently running a 24 bravo 1 and thinking I might need a 28?

Little bumps in the road appeared to be exhaust not lining up correctly, partly due to the fact that i'm running Teague electronic muffler tips, engine hatch needing some mods as it was previously custom fitted to fit the boat with the 496, rewiring the harness a bit. oh, my upgrade included changing out the gimble and drive to an XR.

Tex::: Smart move on nixing the Procharger IMO;) I went fron a Bravo1 24p to a 26, it seems to be a pretty good match for my boat/engine combo, dont know about yours though. Good luck to you and Dr Dre:D NSF

Congrats on the upgrade. If the HP500 in stock, a 26 or a labbed 28 should be the ticket. NSF, please chime in here.

My exhaust didnt line up either so off to the fabricator, I didnt want black hose and didnt have room either so its solid thru the transon with rings and rubbers, came out very sweet IMO. Heres a pic or two:D http://www.***boat.com/image_center/data/500/HP_500_003.jpg,

Thanks for the info guys. I just talked to a guy about some tail pipes that will fit my silent choice , we will see how those work out. Everyones installs look great. I also think the blue motor looks good in an engine compartment.

It is a long story. We had to order a few parts after we took the blower off. I bought a crank pulley from Cdog on the boards and it should be getting here on Friday. Next week will be assemble and test before going in the boat. I will post pictures after Thanksgiving. My mechanic is very picky, just like me, so if something is not exactly right he will not go any further without the right parts or asking me first. I will keep you guys updated and let you know.:D

Thats right, I forgot about the redesigning of taking off the procharger. My cuz had a customer that wanted to take one off and he turned down the job because they change so much stuff when they are installed and the cost was prohibitive just to buy all of the original parts back. IMO you'll be better off without it, Good luck and let us know OK? NSF

Well finally done. It's a long story but the upgrade took a bit longer than we/I thought. Got the boat back this weekend from CA and due to time constraints and weather didn't remember to take any pics.
1st) WOW, the 525 sure does sound different than a 496:cool:
2) I think if you upgrade you'll need mufflers at some boating locations so my teague switchable exhaust is great, just flip a switch when needed. Also helpful for the other exhaust noise enforcer (the wife)
3) Engine and boat ran strong, but i didn't want to hammer it as it still needs to be broken in but from the numbers I got i'm thinking i'll reach the targets I wanted once it's dialed in and I get the prop i need come spring time.

80MPH, come on John, I would think high 80's, no. Maybe even better with how efficient that hull is;)

For some reason Andre's 26 wouldn't run 70. His boat is loaded up with stuff including tabs. I was figuring an additional 14 mph with the new power. But who knows. ???

Really, wow I'm surprised at that number since you run so G.D. well;) That sounds like my Magic's numbers with a 496HO, 68mph was it! So if I gained 50hp and picked up almost 5mph at 73mph the the median gain of 12-13hp = 1mph looks correct right. So let me see, if Dre gained 75hp ( although they say the 525 is under-rated) then in theory he should improve by about 7mph right, so 77-78 ??? Of course the big improvement was in mid range and cruizing speeds vs RPM's for me anyway.
I dont think you can expect 14mph, thats huge:idea: But who am I to say :( NSF

Ya, for some reason my sled's a little slower:confused: Maybe it's the tabs, or cause i gotz 4 batteries plus other gear. I'm going to try and run it after pulling off the tabs sometime and see what that does and maybe rearrange some of my gear on the boat and cross my fingers. Unfortunately most of this will have to wait til spring. High 42 today nights in the 20's have forced the boat to be winterized and hung up for the winter:(

We'll be waiting;) Thats the nice thing about living here, winterize sminterize, I got to take the boat down and put her in the water next week and stretch her legs, get the bunks recarpeted and such, supposed to be mid 70's:D NSF
