here we have a 1998 33 Eliminator with a cheesy through hull water pickup .

It looks like it was installed with the front part not being properly trimmed , and I'm thinking of replacing it with a 1"1/4 scoop type like the one in Rex's on the bottom of this page .

The scoop type has a large thread I'd like to install a seacock there for emergencies , in case the cheap plastic seawater pump may crack or some hose would blow . My question is , would the scoop type pickup deliver the same volume as that through hull pickup in my picture ?
Here's the boat

What is the tube diameter of the pickup you presently have? Only then can we answer your volume question...

Mike , the ID is 1" so it's about the same as the scooper you've got . Here's my concern , is the force of the water pressure would be less with the smoother shape and grate with the scooper? .Just guessing about this. Also does anyone know if this particular year hull is a solid layup or a composite ?
Thinking of using thetwo existing pickups for the chillers alone . The boat has # 5 drives .
