I have a chance to buy a 1970 chevy 350 4bolt main, forged crank short block for $50. Would this be a good block to build? It has never been bored or hurt so claimes the current owner. No heads, so if i build it what should I look for in heads? Is there a particular factory crank that is better than others? I'm thinking build this engine for SE/nostalgia or else build a 427 for SS but I doubt the boat would be fast enough for that class. For the money can I go too far wrong with this block?

If they are in good condition then you can't loose money on that deal. As far as running in the nostalgia class, I would just build a dependable big block. To get a small block to run 80 MPH consistently would take a little more cash and setup. (Then again that is just me taking the easy way out).

Buy it and put it in the corner. I have one and wouldn't take less than $250 for it.........Some day I'll build a street screamer coupe/roadster......Anything but a Camero........MP

Buy it, for $50 you can't go wrong even if it sits under the bench for a year!..
