I'm new here and looking for a boat. Heard the boat show was when prices start to run up. Should I buy now? Went to a few shops and there are some very good deals on the stuff they have in stock. Used boats are really selling cheap. Looking for a 24 -26 v

With how the mortgage and real estate industries are right now, you are safe to buy now, after the show, or during the show. There are many dealers hurting for sales right now, and most realise (or soon will) that this winter may not be the only slow time, next summer may not get any better. Not many people have the equity to go out and buy these big boats anymore. Also, many of the people that had these big nice boats were tied into the mortgage industry somehow, whether it be directly or through a business in which people must come up with large summs of money to purchase their product/ service. We went to the RV show a few weeks back. They said foot traffic was down 50%, and sales down over 70%.

I think now is the best time to buy. There are sellers willing to negotiate prices on their boats as they don't want to pay for the winter storage costs, me being one of them. I'd sell cheaper now than in Spring since I'll just be throwing money at storage and other fees related to keeping a boat until then. :D

You can get a banging deal on a boat in the used market. Probably get a bigger boat for the same price you were going to spend on your 26 footer!

I agree with Rob. People are scrapping boats right now. Buy used and save 25k.

There are some amazing boats for sale right here in the spam section. Just keep searching back pages. They don't always get bumped ttt. For less than 40K you can get a fantastic 24-26 V hull.

After looking a little, I see that some of the used boats are REALLY cheap compaired to the new ones. Many year old boats at 1/2 the cost of the new ones and just as many that are priced even more than I could get a new one for. Hard to establish the going price with these wide swings. I know that cheaper is better. Just looking for the bottom of the market

If a 24' to 26' V bottom is truly what you want, I could help you with a 26'
Sleekcraft Enforcer open bow-mid cabin. However, if you'd really like a 28
but don't think that you should spend the extra money, consider this:
New 2008 Magic 28' Deckboats, 496HO, LOADED with a triple trailer, huge
stereo, etc. etc etc. $11,800 down, $606 a month with a fixed rate! No
strings and no gimmicks. Just a great finance rate.
As you can see, this is roughly what one would normally expect to pay for
a 24 to 26' boat. After the LA boat show, back to the usual price.
Let me know if you want any additional info.

dont let anyone rush your decision on buying right away...
there are tons of used boats right now for cheap... I do not believe that builders will be raising prices much after the show. they didnt last year.
traditionally prices remain the same from now till the show, last year prices were very stable through most of the year. take this into consideration, when a boat builder sells a boat for one price and then gives another away for loads less, he is hurting his own market... chances are, not going to be too significant.
find a boat that works for you and then worry about the price (are you shopping price or boat u like?). be sure to compare like boats, example compare 25 or 26 foot V bottoms all together, do not compare the v bottoms with a deck or cat hull.
find a boat that you like... there will be several to get up close and personal with at the LA boat show. You may save yourself some money by waiting, why pay now for something you are not going to use till summer... or take advantage of a great deal from one of these board members that are unloading there boats in spam because things have changed for them or maybe they want to upgrade... happy hunting, always happy to help if you have questions

Right around Christmas is a good time to gouge the crap out of some strung out seller. :D Take your time, and somthing will pop up that you really like. Its a long time till next spring.
I'd say previously owned would save you a lot of loot over new. And they aren't all yellow... :D
