I'm looking for a 37 to 40 inch LCD HDTV. I have no idea what brands are good and what to stay away from. I'm not a baller so I want to keep the price below $1000.
So who has the hot deals and what should I be looking for?

I bought a 50" plasma Hewlit Packard (the computer manufactuer  )from Costco for 1299.00 for the bedroom. So far it's been awesome and Costco has one of the best return policies in the business if you don't like it. They sold out in two days so keep checking with them to see when they have more in.

We bought a 46" Samsung from (Showcase) Tweeter. Great TV and I am usually a Sony guy. Best price too. I shopped the crap out of this before I bought.

Costco has one of the best return policies in the business if you don't like it.
As long as you return it within 6 weeks. That policy has been in effect since Feb 2007 on all their Major and electronic items. Too many people returning 4 year old TV's and computers. :notam: They do offer an additional year warranty after the manufacturer's 1 year warranty is over on the TV's and such. If you bought prior to their new policy, you get "grandfathered" in with the old return policy.

Costco will accept returns within 90 days from the date of purchase for the following items:
• Televisions
• Projectors
• Computers
• Cameras
• Camcorders
• iPod/MP3 players
• Cellular phones

Will this be your primary TV and what is the main use, HD, sports, movies, video games?

For now the TV will replace what is in my master bedroom so mostly porn......j/k..kinda. Main use for now will be just watching TV. We don't do video games and never watch DVD's in the bedroom. But the TV will eventualy make it to the living room once I get my wife to get rid of the friggen entertainment center that we currently have. Once it's in the LR we will watch DVD's, sports and movies and the like. I want to be able to watch anything that is broadcast in HD without having to get a special card or some shiat like that. So it needs to be HDTV not this HD "ready" bs.

If you are going to make this your main TV down the line, I would increase your budget a little bit or save till you are ready to put one in the living room. Right now with your current budget, you are looking at a third tier TV and I don't know if that will make you happy down the line when you move it to the LR and start watching DVD/HD on it.

I have a 37 Sharp LCD that I am extremely happy with :) The Vizio's from Cosco are a good deal if your not into picture quality, however I ended up taking back 3 that were defective. Hopefully they fixed the problem.

Are these considered 3rd tier?

How much more coin for a 2nd tier or 1st? I don't need the best TV out there but I don't want POS either. I don't mind spending more if it's really worth it. But if you are talking 2 or 3 grand then forget it. That's digging into my 08' KTM 250 XC-E fund.

I am leaning towared the Sharp Aquos for my next one, 42 in 1080p.
I think it medium to high quality relative to the competition.

Philips is considered a second tier TV, Sharp a 1st. I would look for a last years model with a 1st tier name, Samsung, Sony, Sharp, Toshiba, Mits and so on instead of a 3rd tier new model TV. Also, consider that the 37" will look even smaller if the LR is bigger than the bedroom.

My SIL just got a 42" Aquos, very nice picture after calibration and when feeding a good signal.

I'm liking the Sharp. How would I know if it's last years model?
Thanks for the input.

Kind of hard with Sharp cause they have so many models, but the LC37D43U is the new/current model, if it ends with 2U it is last years (2006) model, or the model previous to the 3U, how ever you want to put it.
