Thought about Maui again 4 Thanksgiving, but it really felt like I was at home. Traffic is something I hate on vacation.
Looks like you had a good time.

Yeah we had a great time. This was for our 2 year anniversary. We went on our honeymoon and it actually rained on our Luau so this time was perfect. Old Lahaina Luau is the best one in my opinion.

Trivia QuestionÂ….
Does anyone know how this hang loose wave got started?

The exact origin of the gesture is unknown and there are several theories.
According to the Honolulu Star-Bulletin,[1] prevailing local lore credited the gesture to Kalili Hamana of Laie, who lost the three middle fingers of his right hand while working at the Kahuku Sugar Mill. Hamana was then shifted to guarding the sugar train, and his all-clear wave of thumb and pinkie is said to have evolved over the years into the "shaka". This story is also told by the Polynesian Cultural Center.[2]
A second theory is that the "shaka" sign had to do with marble playing. The position of the hand after shooting the "kini" (marble) is in the form of shaka. The hand sign came to mean sharp or accurate.[citation needed]
A third theory is that the word was originally "shark eye". Holding the hand with the pinkie and thumb extended represented the shark head, with the thumb and fingers being the eyes. To say "shaka" (or "shark eye") to someone and flash the "shark eye" hand is said to have been considered a compliment, as the shark is highly respected in Hawaiian culture

I knew there had to be a few theories on this.
The one that I know of was that of an old Hawaiian surfer and as he was swimming out a shark came up under him and bit his middle three fingers off.
After he was healed up he continued to surf and he would wave at other surfers with his hand that was missing his middle three fingers.

Yes that is where we stayed. I liked it, but it does not compare to the Hyatt which is where we stayed for our honeymoon two years ago. Both have their pros and cons.

We almost stayed at the Hyatt, but picked the Westin at the last minute. Maybe next time. The water slide at the Westin is fun though huh.

Yeah the waterslide was a good time. The Hyatt has a real good slide too. I like the swim up bar at the Hyatt. Only part of the pool at the Hyatt was open so good thing you did not stay there.
