Any opinions on which is better for the sand? Just picked up a KFX400. Only ridden 250's with auto clutch/thumb throttle in the sand.
Anyone have the combo twist/thumb throttle? I believe there are a few mfg. that make them.

I've always preferred the thumb throttle on my Banshee over a twist, and have ridden both. Watched too many people get in trouble, start to go over backwards and only ad to the problem by having a twist throttle and opening it up more. Just my personal preference as quads are a little tougher to get away from than a bike. ;)

Had a twist on my Banshee, and for long rides your thumb wont go numb-sand or dirt.

I agree. I've had both and prefer the thumb over for the twist for the same reasons.

I always liked the twist throttle better, But I started on bikes anyway. My biggest issues with the thumb throttle are when it is cold your thumb is subject to cramp up, And in some cases loose glove materal can get cought in the thumb lever and hold it open.

Like already said..something weird about a twist on a quad. I ride both, twist for the bike and a thumb for the quad. Just feels strange on the quad with a twist..

I prefer the thumb, even though it hurts after a long ride.

Raced MX for years so twist was my natural throttle but on the Banshee I didn't replace the thumb throttle for several years(like 10 perhaps) before deciding to switch it....I like the twist on it much better. I don't have to reach over the top of the bar for tight right hand turns anymore....
To me the good of the twist on the quad outweighs any negatives.....except me having to stop and wait for my thumb throttle friends to give their hand a rest.....LOL:D

Most people who ride quads ride them because they are inexperienced riders. Not talking to all quad riders just the majority, so don't get angry with me, it is just a fact. The twist throttle is better for someone who knows how to use it without all the panic revs, and your thumb will not hurt so much. The thumb is better for those who have no throttle control.

I think it depends more on the quad.
On all my bikes obviously I felt at one with a twist throttle. But on my quads it's just different. You would think it would be the same as a bike but it's not.
All of my quads had twist throttle, until I got a Raptor. I had the twist throttle on for a couple months, then after almost killing myself a few times I decided to switch back to the thumb throttle.
On a kfx400 a twist would be great. But dual action throttles is the best way to go

Why would it matter what the bike was as to which way to go???
As for me, all my quads have had twist throttles.

Because the raptor is not as well Balanced has a shit load of torque= way easy flip overs

j/k
The worst problem for me with a thumb throttle is making a hard right turn and being able to keep throttle open...I'd always end up reaching over the bar with my fingertips to pull open the throttle(with much less control).........
No such issue with twist :)

I was just talking to my buddy about this last night. Its a matter of prefrence. If you can't control the throttle you can't ride. I've always had twist throttles on my banshee's. I'm not picking on you, I just hear that excuse a lot and think its the dumbest one out there. Bikes have twist. Whats the big deal

Twist throttle all the way, I let my friends 12 year old son, ride my banshee a few years back out in glamis, he was riding a blaster with a thumb throttle at the time. He fired up the banshee grabbed full throttle and took off through the whoops and over the dunes, i looked at his dad and said dam that boy has no fear and he said yah i guess not, long story short it scared the shit out of him, he frose up and he couldn't let off the gas, funniest shit i had seen in awhile.

Twist on the Wifes Kawai 700 quad. She also rides a Ninja and feels more comfortable because shes used to it.
Thumb here, but the twist is nice.
It's your personal preference, what you feel comfortable with.

It all boils down to personal preference. I ride both bikes and quads. and a twist on a quad just feels completely foreign to me (I prefer thumb and know how to ride ;))

What he said....
Plus your seating posture is different on a quad... and i think that has alot to do with it... I have tried the twist on a banshee, and a YFZ-450 and i wasnt too comfortable with them and switched back both times... Terry Cable has a nice thumb throttle... and yes i have ridden dirt bikes and quads..
