For your info I have addressed many negative threads on this and other forums regarding Rex Marine over the past several years. I have never closed or pulled one nor have I asked ***boat to do so just because I'm an advertiser and could easily make that phone call, or just push a button myself for that matter.

I have not deleted threads about others having trouble getting paid by other members, in fact there's a couple I pinned in the spam forum right now. I really don't like thieves and flakey people that dodge paying their bills.
I have not deleted threads of others criticizing other manufacturers (although ***boat probably has). I am not ***boat. I don't agree with everything ***boat does. But then again I don't own ***boat so it doesn't matter what I agree with and don't agree with. I am a member here just like everyone else that happened to be chosen as a moderator to enforce ***boats forum guidelines. I'm just another guy trying to get paid after trying all other off-forum methods including having him dodge getting served with small claims notice.

Same sitiuation here, my wifes friend called needing 1k, had it to them in less then 2 hours. promised to pay it back when thier settlement came in(ya right). 18 months later, 60k settlement came and went and guess what still haven't seen my 1k.
Chalk it up to experience and move on, life is to short.

I don't like resorting to posting this kind of thing because I think business should be conducted off the forum when at all possible and only do as a last resort as I've described in the above posts. What would I do with someone outside the forum you ask? At this point probably lose the money as I've tried everything else that's legal with this guy. I'd venture to say though that most our customers are on this or other forums at least to a degree. Certainly not all though.
I also did not mean to come across as disrespecting your profession. I think that sometimes folks just automatically assume biz owners are ballers made of dough which is more the exception than the rule. That was my reason, in jest, for that part of my post.

I treat people fairly, help whenever possible, often not getting paid for it, etc. In turn when I get someone like this I have no problem using this forum to get paid, just as many have used this forum to address issues with Rex Marine. See I'm not afraid of the forum like many marine business owners are. I respect the people on it for the most part and think most respect me likewise for participating, helping, solving problems Rex related or otherwise, etc. I've made friends here that would not have made otherwise and that has great value to me. In turn am one of the few in the marine industry that are pretty accessible to anyone. One thing as you know BNB, unlike some I won't take shit from anyone that's undeserved. Be that good or bad as far as perception that's just the way I operate.

If that is the case then it should be pursued in a legal fashion, in from what I understand you have done. If it was owed to you personally then I guess its your right to do what ever you feel necessary. I by no means know the legality of running a business and how or what to do when someone dicks you over. Like I said, I feel for you. I have had nothing but fantastic dealings with buying and selling parts on here. This Summer Rexone went out of his way to fix an obsolete liquid filled speedo for me so I didn't have to spend $400.00+ on a new GPS unit. The thing came back looking brand new.
I really appreciated his time and his effort. It did take some effort on his behalf, it would have been much easier for him to tell me "No we can't fix that" RexMarine hadn't fixed one in over two years and all of the equipment to do it was still in moving boxes.
My only complaint now, is I didn't get the 24 months same as cash treatment:( ...:idea:

No one seems to understand this flake WAS an employee and as such was given a smoking deal on the parts and pieces he needed. Fast forward, I would guess Mike was taking payments on the parts from the flake's wages. OK, been there done that many times. Mike has PAID for those pieces from the manufacturer, either special order, or stock on the shelf, Mike paid. Now the flake does something, whatever it was, that resulted in him no longer working there. He has the parts he wanted at cost. Did I mention Mike paid for the parts?.....So to keep the payroll records seperate from the sales, as required by the tax board, Mike pays him what he has coming with the promise of the flake coming back to square up the part's AT COST deal. Did I mention Mike has already PAID for these parts?......The flake flees, the flake dodges any attempt to be summoned into court, the flake continues his lifestyle as though he is wealthy, even posting stories about his watersports trips here. The flake tells Mike he will pay him for the boat stuff he got at COST as an employee, the same stuff Mike has PAID for.........Mike is not in business to buy parts for employee's boats, but will give the employee a deal as an employee perk.......The flake still hasn't paid a nickle. Mike out of frustration posts his request for payment here on HB......Figuring maybe he can embarrass the flake into paying for the boat parts that Mike has already PAID for. Have I got a handle on this?..........Now some people here feel it was un professional of Mike, Rexone, to try to collect the debt........Remember, this was not a customer, this was an employee, which changes everything, even legally, if this flake ever shows up in court.
That said, Mike has always responded above and beyond the call of business any time any one here needs that type of personal service, myself included. The people that have a personal vendetta with Mike are out of line to fault him in this attempt to collect the money for the parts he PAID for. Rexmarine and Mike might be two different pockets, but they are in the same pair of pants........Mike, do you need Guido's phone number? He gets 100% as a fee, but he adds it on to the debtor's end.............Ray

This person did the bad-mouth beligerent bs, gave him all sorts of crap and didn't have the guts to even face him. Instead he sent his girlfriend down to the shop to return parts. The device (mufflers) were ruined when returned(something like a year later) and Mike was gracious, hence he gave away $800 bucks just trying to keep a customer happy knowing full well that this clown probably wouldn't be back.
I won't intervene for anyone anymore.
I'm not going to tell you that Rexie is living in a cardboard box which is really nobodies business but no business (man) deserves to be cheated by dishonest customers and or employees. He's been building this business for over half his life now and I don't think you'll find another person that's as accessible as Rex that takes some of the guff that he takes. He has had the hurt put to him BIG TIME by unethical employees in the past but you don't read about it here.
As for BnB, he had a gripe with MSD and thought Rex should basically eat the problem between Msd and BnB. First of all, there's not much profit in Msd products so Rex is basically just a go between. If Msd says no they won't cover their own product then Rex would suffer the lose even if BnB installed the product wrong. Fair that Rex takes the hit, I don't think so. If BnB felt that strongly about it he should continued his feud with MSD.

I would think that there would not be one person on here that would toss in the chicken sh*t criticism that Rex has been subject to for the simple reason that when you owe something it's only right that you pay the bill or you wait til you can afford it. When a business takes a loss whether it's an individual or or larger it has to make up for that loss somehow and it usually comes as higher prices to the rest of us. Should we be subject to pay for a flake like Jet-O-vater so he can go to the river and drink beer?

Lets get this straight, one more time, for the record. I have dealt with Rex marine, off and on, for years, not only by myself, but with GS marine also. I have never, ever, ever had a problem with Mike, or his employees, ever, not once. When I bought the MSD system, the boat was not done, so it was "staged" if you will, in a closet at the house until the time came to install it. Are you guys following so far??
Fast forward several months later, the system is installed in the boat, the engine is tested, runs fine. We take it out to the lake to test it, and it fails. I t WAS NOT installed improperly, nor was it mishandled. It was simply a dud. According to Mike, this is normal, there is a certain percentage of the boxes that fail. OK, I'll buy that at this point. But at the time, I had a NEW box, with less than 15 minutes use on it, and it had failed. I called Rex, and was told there was nothing they could do. Now get this, and understand it you all...had this been a box that I had used for a much longer time...months, maybe years, my phone call to Rex would have been along the lines of "Send me a new box, please"....but because of the tiny amount of time, I thought they should NOT refund me, just replace it. Never happened, I took my business elsewhere, as is my right to do.
While I respect Mike immensely, and like him, I am sorry to say that the business side of things between us has ended. Which is sad, as he was, and still is a great source for parts, especially if you need it yesterday.
What I have said in this thread, and still say, is that things like this are beneath him...he should not have stooped to this level...but, this is his choice..I am walking in on this whole thing over two years later, and reacting to the story. Also, a friend of mine named Bruce Crower built a killer Hot Rod 2 or 3 yrs ago. It's first public outing was to be at the GoodGuy's car show in Del Mar. Bruce get's his beautiful hand built car(he built everything for this car in his work shop including steel body panels) 1 mile from the gates at the show and the "F"ing MSD went out. The car had to be towed in:( Bruce was not to happy:mad: Shit happens.....

Thanks CP, but what I would like everyone to understand, is that this was my first rebuild for a boat. Next time, I will do a lot of things different, like buy the MSD last, so that it doesn't burn off it's warranty sitting on a shelf....I truly had no idea that I had done that....I guess I am so used to just getting a new one....but when It came to this, Rex didn't make the rules, MSD did....his hands were tied....I need everyone to know I UNDERSTAND THAT NOW....and please move on.....LOL....

It is a tough spot and I knew before I posted this thread it might draw some fire. I actually considered it for several weeks before deciding to. That said I have no problem with the decision, or the resultant fire I may receive for it.
As far as Jetovator, he's admitted to me months ago he was a flake so I'm not really calling him anything he has not called himself in this case. Further, after he pays his bill (if he does) he is welcome to come in an do business again with us. I don't hold grudges over stuff like this once taken care of. He's not a bad guy, just a flake. In my mind there is a difference.
There's been a few guys on here I've had some major disagreements with that now resolved we again do business with. BNB, being one of the more vocal ones for example would still be welcome at Rex Marine if he ever chose to, even though we've had and still have some level of disagreement. There are others too in past years. I've been a few rounds here with several be it bad or good. I have no regrets at this point for operating much more publicly than many choose to.
OK I've read enough of this..... With my business I WOULD after 2 1/2 years do as credit card co's are doing... Write it off and 1099 the whole amount including interest.... Not at work so don't have what the interest would be but at 10% THE LEGAL amount to charge without a contract BUT it would be around $750 and let them deal with the IRS instead...

I had another employee clean a truck of many power tools over the course of two weeks. We figured out it was him and I fired him. Called the PD and they would not even open the guy's trunk. I was told it was a total civil matter.
A civil matter? So if I can get a judgment who can collect it? You can't even legally hold final wages as I found out that the hard way. EDD jumped me hard on that.
