I have a new HP PhotoSmart camera and I can't figure out how to resize any of the pics. Compared to my older Sony camera, where the picture size was perfect, this thing is making them huge. They are only a little bigger when I upload them to Hot Boat, but when I send them in an email, they are so damn big, its not even fun to look at. I've tried everything to find a resizing option, but I'm stumped. Can anyone help?

My HP software, has a neat feature, I just right click on the pic, chose resize, then it gives me 3 choices of sizes for what ever I'm doing with the pic :)
There is some free resizing software on the net also.

You can also download it for free. When you want to resize you just right click on the photo and select resize picture. Gives you 3 options. Piece of cake. :rollside:

There should be a setting on the camera to capture pictures at a smaller size so you won't have to resize them later at all. I have my Nikon set to take 1024x768 (XGA) pictures, which is more than enough for web usage. Taking smaller pictures will also mean you will be able to take more before your card fills up. What's the model# of your camera, I can see if I can find how you would set the picture size.

Yeah, this thing is currently sending them out at 2560x1920. F'ing huge!
I have the Adobe Photoshop, but I didn't really want to have to resize and resave all the pics. I'm looking at this program that dj posted. Pretty cool, but renames it a totally different long file. I have the HP Photosmart E317. I tried looking for a setting, but I didn't see one.

Found this on HP's website:
Image quality
NOTE: This setting does not apply when recording video clips.
This setting allows you to set the resolution and JPEG compression of the still images you capture with your camera. At higher Image Quality settings, there will be greater detail visible in the captured images. However, the file size of the captured images will also be larger and, as a result, fewer images can be saved. The Image Quality sub-menu has four settings.
The resolution portion of all the Image Quality settings except for the VGA setting is represented by a number and MP (Megapixels), such as 4MP or 2MP. The higher the number of Megapixels, the higher the resolution. In the case of the VGA setting, the image will be 640 by 480 pixels (0.31 MP), which is the lowest resolution.
In the Capture Menu, select Image Quality.
In the Image Quality sub-menu, use the up/down directional buttons to highlight a setting.
Press Menu/OK to save the setting and return to the Capture Menu.
The Image Quality setting remains set when turning off the camera.
And here's the table that translates megapixels into resolution size:
640 x 480 - 1/3 megapixel
800 x 600 - 2/3 megapixel
1024 x 768 - 3/4 megapixel
1280 x 960 - 1 megapixel
1600 x 1200 - 2 megapixels
2048 x 1536 - 3 megapixels
2240 x 1680 - 4 megapixels
2560 x 1920 - 5 megapixels
So for web pages or email I would use either 2/3 or 3/4 megapixel

Very cool. Thanks for all that info guys. I knew the file would be larger with a 5mp picture, but I didn't know it it actually recorded a larger size. I noticed that my pics at 5 mp were at 91 remaining, but when set at VGA, it jumped to 800. Now I have to resize all the exsting ones.
