I am not sure, but I think it states that you must own one...

You are OK as long as they are not blocking your view. I run them in both of my cars and have never had a LEO give me a second look even with it suction cupped to the windshield.

No problem with detectors in AZ.
Federal Laws says no way in any commercial vehicle subject to interstate commerce regs. But then, only AZ Officers qualifed in Commercial Vehicle Inspection can cite for it.
But remember. By the time you pick up the signal, you're already locked on.

Not if you catch it on a bounce. With my new Escort I get a bounced signal over a roll in the road or around a corner before the LEO is even in sight. Sometimes over a mile away. If he can't make a visual direct line of sight how can he get an accurate reading or even know if it was you that he is picking up over a roll or around a corner?

My Valantine one will catch the bounce around corners, over hills, sometimes up to 3 miles, well over a mile most all the time. Close instant on "aimed at you" rather than someone in front of you, yeah you've pretty much had it, otherwise they're very helpful (for anyone who might push the speed limit a little). Not me of course. I just got it for testing purposes. :D

But you can get pulled over for it. AZ DPS pulled me over for having my radar detector attachd to the windshield, wrote me a warning...

My valentine one has paid for itself 10 times over....and they aren't cheap...but well worth it.
what boatcop said about being locked in, thats true for laser, but not radar ;)
also, it doesnt detect cops if they are pacing you via plane :o

You must have a conveyor traveling twice the speed of the plane to detect those guys. It creates reverse air speed over the top of your vehicle and cause the plane to drift backwards.

HAHAHAHAHA!
I hate that whole plane/conveyor debate because its just plane (hah) retarded!
but that one made me laugh.

My V1 even picked up residual laser once.
I love the CHP that drive with their radar on...my V1 is usually going off for a couple minutes before I even get in visual range. By the time they "lock on" to me, I've been doing 65MPH for 5 miles...lol.
However, if there is a motivated LEO with "instant-on" or laser, and you are dumb enough to be first in line...no detector will help.

thanks guys. I don't own one but my daughter just got stop going from Havasu back to NAU in Flagstaff (right outside Williams) People do drive really fast on that stretch so I am sure she was going with the flow of traffic. She was doing 85 in a 75. She got off with a warning but thought it might be a good Xmas present or maybe I should let her learn her lesson???

yeah, the CHP's on the OC toll roads have been getting sneaky like that too....
they will hide around corners and flip them on and off...
best ticket prevention i have found is to take your foot off the gas pedal... i've gotten to loosen up on my lead foot a lot in the past couple of years.

i would never get one for one of my kids.. let them learn the lesson and slow'em down a bit. hell i don't even have one for my vehicles.

Thats the ticket enable her to drive even faster...
Let her learn a lesson and slow down

I think it all depends on who's going to be paying for the ticket. Sometimes it hurts the most when it comes out of the pocketbook, and you learn the lesson the hard way, but if it's coming from the "bank of dad" then that is up to you! I got away with going 85 in a 65 once, getting caught was enough to slow my a$$ down, at least a little bit :D

I agree the Valentine is the only way to go.. I thank River Otter over and over again for telling me about it.... Its saved me thousands...and my license!!!
As far as "By the time you pick up the signal, you're already locked on.".... yes and no. The Valentine picks up the signal WAY before your in sight.... as long as they keep it on. Some of the smarter ones... (supressing comments) turn it on and off so Like Boatcop said, in other words...your toast. Last ticket i got here was for 87mph in a 45mph zone. $110. Pretty reasonable I would say.

We have been running the V1 for about 4 years... well worth it, that is for sure.

If the officers are using it correctly, and how they've been trained, detectors are useless. We are trained to estimate speed, and confirm it with RADAR. The unit is supposed to be in stand-by, until we have the vehicle in sight.
But, there are lazy cops out there that have it on all the time and look for the car after the tone goes off. RADAR detectors will save you from them, but not from the one's doing it right.

Boatcop:
You bring up a good point that is missed----- if the lazy ones leave it on--- it definitely slows me down. Deterrence on a passive level:D .
Imagine leaving a Patrol Car on the shoulder and have the radar on see what it does for the speed of traffic in problem areas.

Funny thing about radar detector with me anyway. I've found when using it and it does go off, I'm generally barely 5 or max 10 over the limit. With the Valentine and its range and capability around corners and over hills etc it makes me more concious of speed as it warns "way" ahead. Only when first in line or no other traffic around will it not be useful.
I tend to drive more conservatively since I've been using detectors. I'm guessing they are an assurance for some to drive faster but that hasn't been the case with me personally. I just don't run 80-90 or higher like I might have years ago. To me it's not worth the ticket chance.

Valentine 1 here as well. Couldnt imagine driving without it.

Valentine 1 all the way, my old man uses one, it has picked up radar over 5 miles out. and even if the officer is using instant on radar it will trigger when he paints the cars ahead of you.
Well worth the money for the peace of mind.
Has anyone here had any experience with the Phazer 2 passive radar / laser jammer? I'd like to know how well they actually work if at all...

Ever since I put 4.56 gears in my truck, I have the "fuel mileage limiter" engaged. But for some reason, I still use the V1...even when I'm going the speed limit...lol.
I guess it's peace of mind- you never know when a cop is going to come out of nowhere and spin you out in the reeds....
