I am in the process of having an F29 built...are the headsets worth doing??? Seems way too f-in hot in Summer to wear them.....can you listen to tunes on them.
Used to fly alot and hated wearing them..David Clarks make you sweat from the ears a whole lot!!!
Do not want to spend $$$$ on worthless crap (yeah, right!!)

I have them in my boat and they can be handy. Also nice to look badass. One problem (and you won't have this problem with the canopies) but at 70-80 they start to come off lol. but honestly we don't use them all that much, but we also dont do any poker runs. you would probably get more use out of them in poker runs having everyone spotting for you. like i said, its more of the badass look.

New2cats:
I just put them in our new Howard and they are definitely worth it. Even if your not doing poker runs it is nice to talk with your co-pilot/passengers when cruising.
We went with PCI Race Radios and they were very nice. You can listen to music and when you talk the music cuts out and you can speak simultaneously no need to wait until other person stops.
Get the over the head version versus the loop around the back of your head. The wind starts tugging at them---at about 90+ but you will have canopies so it will not be a factor unless your really tall.
Your getting a go fast F-29 it makes sense to get them and you will use them more than you know. Hey! at 65MPH [non canopy boat]you literally have to yell at people to communicate with headset it's a piece of cake.
Sincerely,
KAP
P.S. If you use them in the desert via sand car you simply won't even drive without them in a boat.

KAP;
Thanks. Been watching the progress on your SportDeck....I know Gene & Mike well....they built my "Color Blind" 28' and my killer 25' Bullet a few years ago.....Love the graphics on your deck.
Congrats......be safe!

Mixed feelings on the headsets. I have front only headsets. I wanted the option of having someone truly co-pilot in poker runs without the distraction from the rear passengers. I find myself only wearing them when it's crowded, otherwise I like to actually hear the boat/motors. If your not running poker runs or running when it's crowded, save your money.

In 10 years have never sat in the channel (drive through to see the hardware and G-strings!) !!! Love driving....we do Mead and Powell often; wife hates the channel......we figure if we want traffic and carbon monoxide, we can sit on the 405 in our AMG!!!! Same sh*t!

Get them, and then dont wave to anyone. Just an observation lately on the river.

Hello new2cats:
Thanks for the comps on the Sportdeck. If your gonna boat on Mead and Powell you will definitely want them as the cruising lasts a long time versus the lower Colorado/River areas.
We love Mead and I cannot imagine cruising out from Calville bay all the way through the narrows and north east without being able to talk to people on board. FYI---We have 4 headsets Driv., Co-pilot, two passengers on rear seat.
Patyacht---would be someone I would be talking to as a source of info---he's running the boat-----PM him and ask questions to see if you will want them. If your gonna get that kind of boat I honestly cannot see a reason not to have that option.
Our PCI race radios with 4 Carbon Fiber Headsets costs $1,500 add a two way radio VHF and the price goes up. David Clark and the rest of the headset vendors IMO are overpriced---great company but as a consumer I feel the pricing is not in touch with reality---- it's a friggin intercom.
Very truly yours,
KAP
P.S. Post some photos of your F-29 so I know who and what to look for at Mead:D .

You bring up a good point it's not that people don't want to wave but when the boat is hauling azz it is not prudent to let go of the wheel or throttle and wave.
The passengers usually do but as the driver when your taking care of business you better focus on driving the boat. I'm sure you will agree with this rationale. If they are just cruising around then yes by all means common boating courtesy rules apply.
Respectfully,
KAP

Thanks Kap.....I will talk to the guys at DCB about it....really want to hear the tunes too!
I will go down to El Cajon in about 2 weeks to take pix of her being "popped" from the mold.
Another classy, muted tone boat like my 28' Howard Bullet named "Color Blind"...I like my boats to look like fine watches, not circus wagons.....you did a great job keepin' it classy, classic, sporty and bitchin'!

They are nice to have for poker runs. Other then that I never use them. I would rather hear the sound of the engines.

Have a set from Revolution Marine. 4 place, boom mics(not much luck with the throat mics), stereo wired in, as well as the factory warning systems on the Merc's. Love them..............especially useful in early March and late Oct./Nov. when it's a little cold.

I would get them....I like Xfactor like engine noise....but every once in a while it would nice to put on the headsets and be able to have a conversation with the spouse or friend while making an 80mph plus run from the Springs to Havi or vice versa...

I think they have purpose but on busy weekends no way. It's like driving a car with head phones on a no no.... You need to hear things around you then. I like the picture of Charley going thru channel with them on. Uh explain that to me? Stereo not loud enough or was it BALCKSOCKS1 Over!!!!:D

I agree if you plan to run your boat they are very important for traffic alone, I have them in both of my boats and will never bulid without them . I think they should be required in boats that go over 80 for safety .

I had head sets in Thunderbutt 30years ago. We had too use them if you wanted to talk or listen to the radio. We got a lot of stairs going up and down the river.
